Similar to a regular diet, but foods are easy to digest.


Avoid meat, shellfish, coarse cereals, spicy foods, rich
desserts, fried foods, raw vegetables , fruits, and nuts.

USES: After surgery, patients with infections,


digestive disorders, and chewing problems

WHY SOFT DIET?
This type of frequently prescribed following surgery or dental procedures. There are many reasons
that a medical professionals may prescribe soft foods for a period. Soft foods are extremlely easy to
chew and swallow. Sometimes, a soft food diets is prescribed in a progession following a clear liquid
diet. It is important to note that a soft diet is not the same thing as a bland diet

Soft, but still tasty and nutritious. It is possible to eat a healthy , flavorful and well balanced diet when
you are eating soft foods. By following the guidelines above and using a little creativity, you can keep
your food interesting and your body healthy.
TYPES OF SOFT DIETS
-Mechanical soft diet. This includes foods that you don’t need to chew as much. You’ll eat things with different
textures and thicknesses that are chopped, ground, mashed, or pureed. These foods are soft and tender, and you
should be able to mash them with fork.

-Pureed soft diet. This is a bit more limited than a mechanical soft diet. You’ll only eat foods that you don’t need to
chew at all. As the name implies, you can eaat meals that include pureed foods or liquid foods. Liquid can be added
to make swallowing easier.

Other Tips for a soft food diet


- If your doctor puts you on a soft diet, ask them to help you make sure that you’re getting enough nutrition.

Everyday you need to be eating;

• 5-7 ounces protein per day


• 3 servings dairy per day
• 2 servings fruit per day
• 3 servings vegetables per day
• Aim to drink 8-10 glasses of water or liquid per day
LIQUID DIET
• A full liquid diet is made up only of fluid
and foods that are normally liquid and foods
that turn to liquid when they are at room
temperature, like ice cream it also includes;
strained creamy soups.

Protein
Protein is very important after surgery, it
helps tight infection and dehydration. If
enough protein is not taking on your body it
starts breaking down muscles. So after the
surgery your goal is to loose body fat and
not muscles.
• Lack of protein can also prevent healing
• Protein isolate

• Realistic goals
• -30 grams by day 30
• 60 grams by day 60
• 90 grams by day 90
Examples of foods that you can have
o Yougart
o Creamy blended soups
o Small amount of crackers
o Oatmeal, cream or wheat, malt-o-meal
o Apple sauce
o Protein supplements

-Just a reminder if you started a full liquid diet, you’re still able to include a clear liquid diet products such as:
o Gatorade (1) per day
o Apple juice (1) per meal
o Popsicle (1) per meal
o Tea and coffee
o Snapple
o Broth

-Restrictions
o Chunky, crispy, or fried foods
o Milk
o Bread
o Carbonated beverages

WHAT IS ALLOWED ON A FULL LIQUID
DIET?
o A full liquid consist of food that are liquid at body temperature that provide nourishment with little stimulation of the gastro intestinal
tract
o A full liquid diet that provides approximately 1,200 calories a day and 40 grams of protein, but of course the calorie and protein can go up
depending if any types of snacks are provided in between the meal
o The full liquid diet is a short term diet and it’s indicated for everyone that has an oral surgery or they have problems chewing, swallowing,
or asurgical transition diet, the foods that are allowed is everything that is on a clear liquid diet.

Addition foods that are allowed on a full liquid diet includes:


o Milk products
o Custards
o Icecreams and other dairy products that has liquid at body temperation
o One huge contra indication is, if someone has a lactose intolerance they may not be able to tolerate full liquid diet because it include dairy
products

o REMEMBER:
o Water
o Protein
o Everything else
o Avoid sugars
o Avoid carboated beverages
o Stay to the dirt
o Eat less more often
