BETWEEN RANGE AND
ANGLE OF PROJECTION
INTRODUCTION
PROJECTILE MOTION : Any object thrown into
atmosphere so that it falls under the effect of
gravity alone.

HORIZONTAL RANGE(R) : Horizontal distance

covered by the projectile during the time of
its flight.

ANGLE OF PROJECTION : Angle at with which

the object is thrown into atmosphere.
OTHER TERMS

1. Time of flight(t) 3. Acceleration due to gravity(g))

 SI UNIT : sec  SI UNIT= m/s*s
 dt = change in time  Value used= 9.8 m/s*s

2. Velocity(u) 4. Path of projectile

 Horizontal component  Parabolic nature
velocity and vertical
component velocity
 SI UNIT= m/s
PROCEDURE OF GRAPH GENERATION

f
1.Data Preparation:
•Created a new Excel spreadsheet.
•In one column, entered the values for different angles of projection. For example, we can start with angles from 0 degrees to
90 degrees in increments of our choice.
•In the adjacent column, calculated the corresponding ranges for each angle. We can use the range formula, which is:
Range = (u^2 * sin(2*θ)) / g, where "u" is the initial velocity, "θ" is the angle of projection, and "g" is the
acceleration due to gravity (approximately 9.81 m/s^2).
2.Inserting a Chart:
•Selected the data in the two columns (angles and ranges).
•Gone to the "Insert" tab in the Excel ribbon.
•Clicked on "Chart" or "Scatter" and selected the appropriate scatter plot chart type.
3.Formatting the Chart:
•Customized the chart to your preferences. We can add axis labels, a title, and format the appearance of data points and lines.
4.Label the Axes:
•Made sure to label the x-axis (angle of projection) and the y-axis (range).
5.Finalize the Chart:
•Adjusted the chart properties and appearance until it looks the way we wanted.
RELATION IN THE GRAPH

The graph changes as the value

of the range changes with change
in the angle of projection of the
projectile when u is taken
constant.

Range = (u^2 * sin(2*θ)) / g,

We take u as constant and g itself

is a constant, then

Range ∝ sin(2*θ)

where θ is the angle of

projection.

OBSERVATION FROM GRAPH

Range is maximum at 45 degree

angle of projection.

Range is zero when the angle of projection is o

degree or 90 degrees.

Ranges are same in two angles of

projection, θ and 90-θ.
REAL LIFE EXAMPLE

1. When we throw ball vertically the

ball covers height but falls into our
hand , i. e no range.

2. When thrown at center direction ( i. e approx. 45 degrees) , we

can throw at maximum distance.

Examples of projectile motion;

Throwing a ball or a cannonball.
The motion of a billiard ball on the billiard table.
A motion of a shell fired from a gun.
A motion of a boat in a river.
The motion of the earth around the sun.
