Introduction

Project overview
 Give a short summary of project objective and the system to be developed.
Following are some important points for this section:
 Problems and overview statement
 Customer
 Goals
 System function (signup, login, vote cast)
 System attributes
Example
Project title: online voting system for department

1.1 Introduction to Online Voting System

 “Online voting system” is an online voting technique. In this age of innovations
where world is fleetly moving towards technology, Online Voting System for
Department help any type of departmental election to be held fairly.
 The election may be held for the student council for selection of a president in
Department, or can be used for teacher’s election.
 All information of voters are maintained in a database. In online voting system,
voters are using their voting right without any difficulty. Voters fill Signup form and
their data will be successfully inserted if CNIC and Email not already exists in
database
Continued.
 If they tried to register using same Credentials an error message will be displayed.
After successful Signup voters can Login using their Email and Password and they
will receive a link on their Email. By clicking on it they can cast vote.
Background study
 Discuss previous work related to your project.
 Highlight some problems or shortcomings that you have seen in that topic.
 In background study, you can add reference to support your statements.

1.2 Background of Study

 Online voting system is also known as e-voting. This voting focus on different type
of voting techniques for vote counting. In electronic voting technology we have
punched card and optical scan technique [1]. There are a lot of other methods for
vote counting like casting vote via internet [2].
Continued.
 Online voting system help us to choose leaders via web driven application. The main
advantage of online voting over common “queue method” is that it help voters that
they can cast vote in their free time instead of waiting in queue for hours [3].
 Online voting system reduce errors in vote counting as compared to previous
methods [4]. People will find this easier way of casting vote because everyone in
this age used to work with computers and mobile phones for doing shopping and
paying bills. This online voting method helps to reduce absenteeism rate [5].
Problem statement

 This section should describe need for this project and the problem that project is
addressing.
 Problem statement should be brief and not comprising of more than 150 words.
 Section: problem statement

1.3 Old method of Voting

 Paper-ballot system:
 Paper ballot system is expensive because it’s totally paper based and manual.
 Casting vote is time consuming because of long queues and people will wait for their
turn to cast their vote.
 Manual vote count is time-consuming process and also error containing.
 In Manual Election system anyone can illegally cast vote.
Continued.
1.4 Problems with Existing voter Registration system
 Few problems that we faced in manual method are following:
 Manual system require a lot of paper work.
 Previous system is expensive and time consuming.
 A lot of errors
 Loss of Registration forms
 Provide short time to view voter register.
Objectives

 Write down project objective.

 Objectives are the final results to be achieved after the completion of the project.
 Include all the modules you want to add in the project.
 Example: Online voting system for department

1.5 Objectives of the project

 Specific objectives of this project includes:
 Coming up with/designing an automated system of voting at departmental level.
 Implementing that automated system for voting in department.
 Validating that system so that only eligible voters can cast vote.
Significance of your project

 Mention the importance or impact of your project on society.

 You can also mention advantages of project or how your project tackle the problems
that existing system face.
Example: Online voting system for
department

1.6 Significance of Online Voting System

 The advantages of Online Voting System are as follows:
 online voting system helps to reduce cast fake vote activities because everyone
login through their emails and then receive link on their email accounts through
which they can cast vote.
 Not even administrator have access to see each party vote count during Election
time.
 It require less number of staff during Election.
 This system is a lot easier to independently hold the elections and subsequently
implements its transparency and fairness.
Continued.
 This system help to ensure that the members who are registered are the only ones
to vote.
 This system require less capital, less effort, and less labor intensive, as the primary
cost and effort will focus primarily on creating, managing, and running a secure
online portal.
 Increased number of voters because people will find this easier and convenient to
vote.
 Portable
 Design is simple, ease of use and reliable
Note:
 If your project topic is new and not yet implemented then you can skip background
study step. But highlight project significance
