WHAT IS PRODUCTION/TECHNICAL STUDY?

• It is the review of the technical resources available to

proceed with the project.
• The evaluation of the details of how you intend to deliver a
system or solution to the customers.
IMPORTANCE OF PRODUCTION/TECHNICAL
STUDY

• It helps you determine whether the technical resources can

meet the project’s objectives.
• It helps you investigate current and future access to the
needed technical resources.
• It is an excellent opportunity for long-term planning.
TECHNICAL CAPABILITY: DOES THE
PROJECT HAS THE TECHNICAL RESOURCES
TO UNDERTAKE THE PROJECT?
PRODUCTION/TECHNICAL STUDY

1. Process Specification
2. Production Volume
3. Materials and Supplies
4. Machinery and Equipment
a. Physical Plant
b. Manpower
PROCESS SPECIFICATION

• Defines what must be done to transform inputs into

outputs.
• It is a detailed set of instructions outlining a business
procedure that each elementary level business activity is
expected to carry out.
UNDER PROCESS SPECIFICATION, THERE ARE 3 PROCESSES
THAT A BUSINESS MUST DECIDE WHERE TO ENGAGE FOR
THEIR BUSINESSES.

1. Manufacturing process
• Are the steps in which the raw materials are transformed into a final
product.
• Manufacturing process begins with the product design and material
specifications form which the product was made.
2. Production process
• Is the method of using economic input or resources, like
labor, capital equipment or land, to provide goods and
services to consumers.
3. Service process
• As the way in which a company works so that a customer receives
service.
• Some of the most common types of service processing is the one
involve people. Health care, lodging, Passenger transportation,
Fitness centers, Haircutting salon are all examples of service
processing involving directly the end customer.
PRODUCTION VOLUME

• Production volume measures the total amount your

company can produce over time. This KPI tracks the total
number of products manufactured over a set period of time
(days, weeks, months, quarters, years) and focuses on total
output.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATOR (KPI)

• Key Performance Indicators is a measurable value that

demonstrates how effectively a company is achieving
key business objectives.
HOW DO YOU MEASURE THE KPI?

• To measure production volume, you need to first select

the time period you wish to monitor. After establishing
the correct time frame, you should collect overall
production data on every product manufactured and
combine it to form an aggregate figure.
BENCHMARK/INDICATOR

Useful indicators include:

• Weekly production numbers
• Production quantities per product
• Changes in volume over time
MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES

Materials Supplies
Defined as any thing you Materials not used directly in
consume directly in the the manufacture of your
manufacture of your products (e.g. envelopes,
products. (e.g. T-shirt, Ink) packaging)
Materials are always added to Materials used in the
your inventory instantly when production of your products
purchased, which the total that are not able to be
value of is treated as an inventoried due to an inability
“asset until sold”. to accurately measure the
material (e.g. thread)
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF SUPPLIES THAT MAY
BE CHARGED TO EXPENSE, WHICH ARE:

• Factory supplies- these supplies include maintenance

materials, janitorial supplies, and items that are considered
incidental to the production process.
• Office supplies.
MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT

Machine Equipment
A machine is an apparatus used Equipment is any necessary
for the mechanical power and items required for a particular
has several parts, with a definite purpose.
function, which together
performs a particular task.
A machine does a preset task Humans use equipment to
without any intervention. complete a task
ADVANTAGES:

1. Time Saving
2. Labour Saving
3. Accuracy
4. Specialization and Division of Labour
FACTORS IN SELECTION OF MACHINES
AND EQUIPMENT

1. Cost - In considering cost as a factor in the selection of

office machines and equipment, the same way to be viewed
from any of the following points.
• Initial Cost
• Cost of installation
• Cost of maintenance
2. Flexibility and capacity - If the machine being considered
can be used effectively for many types of work in the office.
3. Trade – in allowances - a reduction in the trade value or
sale price of an asset offered for sale by the seller in
exchange of the asset owned by the buyer.
A. PHYSICAL PLANT

• a place that is being used during an operation in

manufacturing or production of goods and products.
B. MANPOWER

What is Manpower?
• Manpower is another term for human resources. It basically
involves the people who make the workforce in an
organization. It is the total supply of personnel available to
complete a particular task. Manpower is the most crucial
resource for any organization to function properly and
achieve high productivity.
THE PROCESS AND STEPS FOR MANPOWER
PLANNING ARE AS BELOW:

1. Understanding the existing workforce -The HR

department has to thoroughly understand the manpower
available with the company.

2. Forecasting for the future - With constant changes in

business requirements, companies must understand the future
trend and which type of employees would be best suited for
their organization.
3. Recruitment and selection- Depending upon the business
requirements, manpower planning leads to a much more well
thought out recruitment and selection pattern.
4. Training the employees- Employees who are a part of the
organization are trained to have the best skills, knowledge
and understanding about the current job as well as the future
requirements.
