REINFORCED

CONCRETE
vs.
STEEL
STRUCTURES
A presentation identifying their respective pros and cons.
01
REINFORCED
CONCRETE

Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) is a

composite building material consisting of
structural concrete reinforced with a
reinforcing material like steel. Steel is the
most common reinforcement used , due to its
complimentary properties.
REINFORCED CONCRETE
pros cons
 Economical (the materials needed are available mostly  Heavier structure needed a bigger foundation
everywhere).
 Needs more manpower, either skilled or non-skilled worker
 Easy in construction
 If not properly constructed, the repair is costly than the
 Fire-resistant original price or cost

 Sturdy  Proper proportion of mixture is extremely monitored

 Residential or typical house is cheaper than steel

02
STEEL
STRUCTURES
Steel structure is a metal structure
which is made of structural steel
components connect with each other to
carry loads and provide full rigidity.
STEEL STRUCTURES
pros
 Cross-sectional area is smaller
 Resistant to earthquake and wind
 Shiftable (can transfer the column or beam to another location)
 FASTER CONSTRUCTION
- Faster to build columns and beams once you already have pedestal
- Faster when it comes to small scale construction
 Easy in quality control
 Sturdy
 Good use at warehouse, industrial, factories and commercial.
STEEL STRUCTURES
cons
 Manpower required is only skilled worker and helper; it is not
easy to find professional, trained welder or helper.
 Whole duration of project, sometimes steel frame structures
takes longer when the project is big or complex
 Prone to corrosion
 Heavy material ( it requires heavy equipment)
 Need to take care the joints
 The materials are not available everywhere
