Brain as the site of sensation
• Mammals have large brains for their body size--larger than most
members of other vertebrate groups.
• Almost 2% of body mass but consumes almost 20% of your energy
and this can happen while resting too.
Neuroscience??
Neuroscience is a study devoted to understanding the nervous
system and its core component, the brain. This investigation can
occur at multiple levels, from molecular synapses and cellular
networks to cognition and behavior.
• Henry Molaison, or Patient H.M., is a famous case study in psychology that
revealed how new memories are formed. He underwent a surgery to remove
parts of his hippocampus to treat his epilepsy, but he developed anterograde
amnesia as a result. He could not form new explicit memories, but he retained
some implicit memory abilities. His case showed the importance of the
hippocampus in memory formation
