Pre-operational procedure

 Clean Up
 Internal-foreign material should be removed
from pressure parts.
 External-any obstruction to the normal
expansion of unit should be removed.
 All personnel and maintenance equipments
should be removed.
 Access doors, man holes should be closed.
 Working area should be cleared.
Chemical cleaning & Steam
blowing
(For new unit or after major pressure part repair)
 Acid cleaning & Alkali Boil-out
 Steam blowing - M. S.& R. H. lines should be
blown out to remove scale & foreign matter prior
to setting of DRUM & SH safety valves
 Safety valve Setting - Popping pressure & downs
should be adjusted .
Cold Start Up Checks (Controls)
 Assumed above activity completed.
Following Auto control system to be checked
 Drum level control
 DP across feed control valves
 Furnace draft control
 Total air flow control When CMC
 Total fuel control When CMC
 P. A.Header pressure control
 LDO/HO Pressure Control
 LDO/HO atomizing Air /steam pressure control
 HO temp control
 Mill air flow & temp control
 Wind box DP control

Sequence of operation
 All permits cancelled
 Bottom Ash Hopper, seal through filled & overflow
maintained.
 Power supply HT/LT Normal
 G.S.Water cooling system normal.
 Instrument Air/Service Air Pressure Normal.
 Oil guns are in position.
 Drum level G/Glass in Service.
 Drum /Eco vents open
 SH drains crack open.
 Boiler outlet valves close.
 DM water filling system normal.
 Drum level normal.
 Burner tilt horizontal.
Continue……
 Start APH(both top/bottom) lub oil pumps & adjust lub oil
pressure by recalculating valve.
 Perform LOP auto pick up trial.
 Start APH one by one & open inlet /outlet dampers. Check current
as well as abnormal sound.
 Start & Establish lub oil system of ID/FD fan as described above.
 Discharge damper of respective fan must be close & Inlet Guide
Vane close.
 Start one ID Fan open DD, then set furnace draft for – 5mm wcl
and put ID fan on Auto. Interconnecting damper open
 Select FD Fan to be started.
 Start one FD Fan as above.
 Gradually increase air flow up to 300 T/Hr. Observe Wind box DP.
 Put Wind box damper on auto.
PURGE READY PERMISSIVES

 Now PURGE READY will appear if following


conditions fulfilled.
 1)All fuel LDO/HO/Trip valve close
 2)All C/M ,C/Feeders OFF
 3)DL Normal
 4)No BLR Trip
 5)Scanner sense NO FLAME
 6) HAG Close ,Cold air gate 5% open
Boiler Light Up
 Select LDO in AB elevation.
 Open LDO trip valve.
 Regulate LDO pressureabout 6 Kgs/cm2
 Initiate start command to1 / 3 pair.
 Oil valve will open, then igniter on and scanner will
show flame or no flame depending on the condition of
flame.
 Establish one by one oil guns as per requirement
 Initially rate should be slow(110 oC/Hr).
 Check flame ,smoke from chimney & make suitable
adjustment in firing/air etc
 Observe metal /flue gas temperatures and adjust
firing accordingly.

 Follow chemist program and arrange blow


down.
 Meantime carry out Air heater soot blowing
periodically to avoid any APH fire.
 LDO I/S at least up to 177 0C air temp.
 Drum level will swell, operate EBD if required
