EMP- AIR ENVIRONMENT
DURING CONSTRUCTION
 Water sprinkling arrangement will be provided around the stockpiles and used
whenever necessary to make them moist. Cement and steel will be stocked inside
covered sheds.
 Necessary dust suppression measures like water sprinkling using road tankers (5
KL) will be deployed to mitigate the dust nuisance during internal road making. The
road construction will be done during day-time.
 Construction equipment/vehicles having ‘Pollution Under Control Certificate’ will be
deployed during the activity to restrict the exhaust emissions. Vehicles deployed
complying BSVI will only be used.
 Boundaries/ screens will be provided around the site as wind barrier to restrict wind
flow, and to reduce dust emission.
 Plantation will be undertaken during project inception stage.

37 M/s. Gravity Sponge and Power Pvt. Ltd.

DURING OPERATION
 The main pollutants discharged from the Induction Furnace, Sponge Iron Plant;
Power Plant and Ferro Alloys Plants will be particulate matter. In case of power failure
DG set will be used and emissions generated from DG set operation will be PM, SO 2
and NOx. Other gaseous emissions due to pig iron plant which is considered
maximum consumption of raw material i.e. worst condition considered but all the
predicted values well within the standard.
 The Particulate emission is mainly emitted out through Induction furnaces. To control
air pollution company will install Bag Filters with 30 meter stack and ID/FD fan
capacity to cater the future requirement to control emission less than 30 mg/Nm³.
 The emission level within 30 mg/Nm3 from pig iron plant (SAF) will be controlled with
45 m height stack. Submerged Arc Furnace will be provided with Flue gas cooler and
dust extraction system, ESP with Chimney.
 Water spraying will be carried out in order to control fugitive emissions in the internal
open storage yards.
 Adequate dust suppression system in the form of water sprinklers shall be provided at
raw material yard, temporary solid waste dump site and along the vehicular roads.
 There will be dedicated roads for vehicles carrying raw materials and products.
 Stacks will be provided with porthole and working platform so that stack monitoring
can be done as per norms of statutory authority.
38 M/s. Gravity Sponge and Power Pvt. Ltd.
EMP- NOISE ENVIRONMENT
 For any period of exposure falling in between any figure and the next higher or lower
figure as indicated in column A, the permissible sound pressure level is to be
determined by extrapolation on a proportionate basis.
 Entry to the working area wherein the noise generating sources are located will be
permitted with PPE’s like ear muff, ear plugs
 Workers in grinding area will be equipped with gloves.
 Regular audiometric test of workers will be done and the medical reports of same
should be maintained.
 Display should be made clearly indicating noise prone area along with dB level. The
equipment, which is prone to generate excessive noise, will be provided with
enclosures etc.
 To reduce the Noise generation during the transportation activities; the vehicle shall
be kept periodically serviced and maintained as per the requirement of latest trend
in Automobile industry. Only those Vehicles with PUCs and spark arresters shall be
allowed for the transportation.
 Existing green belt around the periphery of the plant will also helpful to restrict the
noise levels
 This will help in reducing the adverse effect of pollution in general.
 All equipment in the plant will be designed/operated to have a total noise level not
exceeding 85 to 90 dB (A) as per the requirement of OSHA (Occupational Safety
and Health Administration) standard and the Environment (Protection) Rules.
39 M/s. Gravity Sponge and Power Pvt. Ltd.
EMP- WATER ENVIRONMENT
INDUSTRIAL WASTE WATER MANAGEMENT
 Closed circuit water system implemented in DRI Division, Ferro Alloys, SMS and power plant division.
Hence there will not be any waste water generation from process and cooling in the steel plant.

POWER PLANT
 Total wastewater generation from the WHRB and AFBC Captive power plant is 19 cum/day. ETP
Capacity – 100 KLD Proposed). The boiler blow down & DM Plant regeneration water treated in a
neutralization tank. As the proposed plant will be Zero effluent discharge plant, there will not be any
provision of water getting mixed with solid particulates. Total 19 KLD treated water generated
through neutralization, out of this 10 KLD will be utilized in Dust suppression and remaining 09 KLD
will be used in Ash conditioning /Slag Quenching.

DOMESTIC WASTE WATER MANAGEMENT

 Domestic effluent will be treated in STP. It is proposed to install 60 KLD STP based on MBBR
technology.
WATER CONSERVATION
 The first step towards the management of water environment would be conservation of the water.
Proper step shall be taken to conserve the water, apart from the reuse and recycle of the wastewater
generated.
 Storm water drainage network shall be designed
 Faucets uses are of low water consumption type.
 W.C, Flush and Urinal Flush valve shall be of low water consumption type
 Domestic wastewater after treatment will be reused within the plant premises for green belt
development and dust suppression
 Rain water harvesting scheme shall be implemented.

 Rain water harvesting scheme shall be implemented. As per CGWB, 2013 data the plant area falls in
safe zone. As in the plant 1230 KLD of groundwater will be used for various processes, we are
proposing the rainwater harvesting structures to reduce the impact on groundwater resources in
surrounding areas.

6 Electrical Induction Furnace with Shock, fatalities PPE, Proper insulation to be provided to electrical wiring, training to the
CCM and other electrical workers, electrical safety audits should be carried out accordingly as per
equipment Indian Electrical Rules, earthing must be carried out.
7 Fire During Tapping Injury, fatalities PPE, training to workers, ensure deployment of fire fighting equipment’s,
water gel blankets, emergency response plan must be in place, and
emergency contact no. should be in control room.
8 Explosion Molten metal, Burn, injury, Death Complete dryness of material prior to contact with liquid iron and steel
Contaminated Scrap separation of flammable gas and combustible material, ensure that scrap
handling yard, Crucible used in process should not be contaminated with hazardous materials.
Storage structures made of non-combustible material provide equipment
grounding for minimization of static electricity hazard. All the motor must
be spark proof.
