The document discusses a marksmanship training for criminology students at NEMSU Cantilan Campus. It describes the orientation where students learned gun safety rules and proper firing positions. They then engaged in a firing activity using R4 and M14 rifles at a firing range overseen by the Philippine Army. The three basic firing positions - standing, kneeling, and prone - are explained. The student expresses gratitude to instructors and the military for the opportunity to learn important skills needed for their future career.

Prepared by: Ryan Dave L. Garcia BSCRIM2-A PE-4 “Fundamentals of Marksmanship
The most exciting and awaited part of being a
criminology student begin. The second year BS Criminology students of NEMSU (North Eastern Mindanao State University) – Cantilan Campus, trained on how to shoot and learn the basics about marksmanship as a part of their subjects. The purpose of this activity is to prepare all criminology students for their future chosen profession, the law enforcer. All students can’t wait to savor this experience and that is the reason why they are all prepared and also excited because this is their first time to shoot. “During the Orientation”
The said activity was conducted in Puyat, Carmen,
Surigao Del Sur at 36th Infantry “VALOR” Battalion, Philippine Army. Before the actual firings, students thoughts the gun safety rules and how to use those different riffles. Also, students learned the proper handling of riffle and proper body position with a proper aim or sight alignment to hit the target. It was demonstrated by our Philippine armies to ensure the safety and smooth flow of the activity. Students were oriented to be disciplined, and always follow the instructions coming from their instructors. “The Actual Firing”
After the orientation, the next step is to have a firing activity.
Everyone was at the firing range and again our Philippine army, guide the students on what are do’s and don’ts in actual firing. They got the first shot and every student felt the loudness and nervousness due to excitement to try. There are two riffles to be used, first is the R4 riffle which is high powered riffle used for SAF and army in combat operation and it is the replacement of M16 riffle. The second one is the M14 riffle, although it was old model but still it is capable of precise shot in long range targets and students must grip properly on this riffle due to its strong recoil during the fire. “The Three(3) Basic Firing Positions”
1. STANDING POSITION
This position requires balance and relaxation
especially when you are first time shooter. This position is used if ever the target is below or hiding. Standing position is the most common firing position however, it is unstable if you have lack of practice or experience in shooting. 2. Kneeling Position
For beginners, this position might be
uncomfortable but, in military, it is one of their favorite firing positions. It is commonly apply in assault combat or even for ambush to counter the enemy. With this position, your body become stable because the weight of riffle is evenly distributed with the support of your knee. 3. Prone Position
This is the best firing position for beginners
because it provides stable and fix position of the body as well as the riffles. It helps the shooter to focus on the target while controlling the breathing. The shooter’s weight is on the ground and it helps to have better alignments and better results of targets. This position usually used by military on assault, ambush, snipers, and hiding while holding their grounds. “My Deepest Gratitude” As a student of NEMSU Cantilan Campus, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all of the criminology instructors and militaries of 36th IB for their full support just for us to learn and experience those important skills. I am very proud that I am one of the hundreds of students enrolled in BS Criminology course here in NEMSU Cantilan and in return, I will do my best shot just to hit that certain goal, to be a registered criminologist. And also with the help of our almighty God, everything will become possible. THANK YOU!!!
