SPEECHES
ACCORDING
TO
DELIVERY
MANUSCRIPT SPEECH
• This is where a speaker reads a
pre-written speech word-for-word.

• This type of speech delivery is

used when the information found in
the speech must be delivered
exactly as it appears (as in press
conferences, police statements, or
official reports).

MANUSCRIPT SPEECH
Examples :
1. A report submitted by the Chief
Project Engineer regarding the
breakdown of the expenditures.

2. Discussing the details of the

legislation.

3. Graduation speeches

6
MEMORIZED SPEECH
• This is the complete opposite of manuscript
speeches. Instead of reading a pre-written text, the
speaker recites the speech from memory and delivers
it without the physical copy of the speech present
(Reference, 2020).

• This is used mainly for oratorical events:

declamation, oration, etc.

• This poses a greater challenge to the speaker

because he/she will have to do two things at the same
time: make sure that the correct words are uttered
and make the words sound convincing.

7
MEMORIZED SPEECH
Examples:

1. Oratorical contests in schools

2. Declamation competitions

8
IMPROMPTU SPEECH
• Impromptu speeches are given on the spot.
In this type of speech delivery, the speaker
gives spontaneous and immediate responses
to the statement, with little to no preparations
(Lumen Instructure).

• However, it may be assumed that the person

asked to respond has background knowledge
of the topic being discussed.

Examples: TV interviews and Job interviews

9
EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEECH
• Extemporaneous speeches are somehow
similar to impromptu speeches. These are
also a bit on the spot (Merriam-Webster).

• However, there is one (1) major difference

between impromptu and extemporaneous
speeches: extemporaneous speeches allow the
speakers to make short preparations to plan
out their content while impromptu speeches
do not.

10
EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEECH
Example:

1. TED Talks

2. A teacher’s lecture
