The Nervous and

Endocrine System
PG. 60
Vocabulary!

• Nervous System
• Brain
• Spinal Cord
Vocabulary!

• Nervous System: Controls the actions and

reactions of the body.
• Brain: Is the body’s central command organ.
• Spinal Cord: Connects the brain with the rest of
the body.
Question!
• Have you ever heard that the
brain is divided into two
sides?
• Which are they?
Question!
• The brain is divided into
right and left hemispheres.
Both parts of the brain work
together; however, some
people rely more heavily on
one side of their brain than
on the other.
Question!
• People who rely more on their right
brain are sometimes more imaginative
and intuitive. Such individuals are often
drawn to art, music, and literature.
• Those who rely more on their left brain
can be more logical and analytical, and
often excel in the sciences and
mathematics.
• This are generalizations!

Nervous System
• The nervous system is made of the
structures that control the actions
and reactions of the body in
response to the stimuli from the
environment.
• Is divided into two parts: Central
Nervous System (CNS) and
Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
Central Nervous System (CNS)
• The central nervous system
consists of the brain and spinal
cord.
• The brain is the body central
command organ. It receives
impulses from all over the body.
• The spinal cord connects the brain
with the rest of the body.
Peripherial Nervous System (PNS)
• The Peripheral Nervous System
contains sensory and motor
nerves.
• The PNS connects your CNS with
the rest of the body.
• Is also responsible of the
voluntary and involuntary
processes.
Parts of the CNS
• Brain: body’s central command
organ.
• Cerebrum: Where you think and
problem solve. Voluntary
movements.
• Cerebelum: Coordination and
balance.
• Brain Stem: Involuntary
movements.

Knee Reflex Test*
• Sometimes, when you damage
your head or your lower side of
the body, doctors will test your
reflexes.
• They sometimes point light to
your eyes, put a spatula on your
tongue or test the knee reflex test.
• You can even try it at home!

Vocabulary!

• Bundle
• Neuron
Vocabulary!

• Bundle: A group of things tied or held together

(bulto).
• Neuron: Cell that moves signals in form of
electricity.
Parts of the CNS
• Spinal Cord: carries impulses
between the brain and the PNS.
• Nerves: Neurons bundled together
with blood vessels and connective
tissue.
• Vertebrae: Protective bones that
surround the spinal cord.

Question!
• Have you ever heard of the
Telephone Game?

• In what consists?
How do signals move?
• Your nervous system works by
receiving information from the
environment.
• This information is transformed
into electrical signals (impulses)
• Neurons are the cells that move
these signals (impulses) around
the body.
