STEREOTYPES Stereotypes are widely held but oversimplified and
generalized beliefs or ideas about a particular group
of people, things, or characteristics. These beliefs or
ideas often involve assumptions, judgments, or
preconceived notions based on limited information or
biased perceptions.

Stereotypes can be either positive or negative, and


they can be based on factors such as race, gender,
age, nationality, religion, or other characteristics.
Stereotypes can lead to unfair judgments, biases, and
discrimination against individuals or groups, and
they can hinder understanding and empathy.
VOCABULARY: STEREOTYPES
Stereotype: A widely held but oversimplified and generalized belief or idea about a particular group of
people or things.
Prejudice: Preconceived opinions or attitudes formed without sufficient knowledge, typically involving
stereotypes.
Bias: A systematic and often unfair preference for or against a particular group, person, or thing.
Discrimination: Unfair or unjust treatment of individuals or groups based on their perceived differences.
Cultural Awareness: Knowledge and sensitivity to the customs, beliefs, and practices of different
cultures.
Inclusivity: The practice of including people from all backgrounds, cultures, and identities.
Diversity: The presence of a variety of different groups, people, or things within a given context.
Multiculturalism: The coexistence of diverse cultures within a society.
Xenophobia: A strong and irrational fear or dislike of people from other countries.
Stigmatization: The act of assigning negative attributes or labels to individuals or groups.
