Elytra are shell like(fore wings)
 This is the largest order in class insecta comprising about
1/3rd or 40% of the known insect species
 Head highly sclerotized free normal or prolonged into a snout
as in weevils
 Mouthparts are chewing type with well developed mandibles
 Prothorax large and freely movable, mesothorax much reduced
and fused with metathorax

 Beetles of moderate size, oval, convex dorsally and horizontal

ventrally, brightly coloured and spotted.

 Grubs are usually covered with minute tubercles or spines
 Both adults and grubs of most of the species are highly predacious
feeding on soft bodied insects
 Genus epilachna are phytophagous
 Eg:Predator on aphids-Menochilus sexomaculata

Predator on cottony cushion scale-rodalia cardinalis

Lady bird beetle on brinjal-Henosepilachna vigintioctopunctata
FAMILY:BRUCHIDAE
 Tarsal formulae is 5:5:5
 Larvae usually undergo hypermetamorphosis.
 Eg:Pulse beetles:Callsobruches chinensis
