Mains Electricity
Main electricity is the electricity which come to our homes, offices and
other places by electrical grid.
Advantages
Advantages of mains electricity are:
• Main purpose is that it is Alternating Current (AC)
• They are far cheaper that running a generator.
• Runs continuously
Disadvantages
Mains electricity disadvantages are:
• Electric shock and burn when someone contacts with it
• Mains electricity can produce large currents. Which may cause a fire.
AC and DC
In Direct Current (DC) the electrons flow in a single direction and, on the
other Alternating Current (AC) the electrons move forward and can move
backwards.
Advantages of AC over
DC
AC is less expensive than DC.
AC can be transmitted across long distances without much energy loss,
unlike DC
