PERSONAL INFORMATION
Born on 23 October 1957 in Ludhiana, Punjab. 2nd son of Sat Paul & Lalitha Mittal. Sat Paul Mittal - Member of Parliament (M.P) from Ludhiana, died of cardiac arrest in 1992.

Two siblings Rakesh Mittal, Co-Chairman and Rajan Mittal, Member of Bharti Enterprises. Married to Nyna and has 3 children twins Shravin and Kavin and Eiesha Bharti Mittal.

Education
Schooling - Wynberg Allen School in Mussoorie and Scindia School at Gwalior. Graduation 1976, Bachelor of Arts and Science, from Punjab University, Chandigarh. Harvard Business School.

Early Career
1st business Age of 18, making crankshaft for bicycles, with a capital of Rs.20,000. 1980 Started Import Enterprise Bharti Overseas Trading Corporation. 1981 Got importing licences. Imported Suzuki Motor's portable electric-power generators.

Into Telecom
1984 - Started assembling push-button phones in India, replacing the rotary phones. Started marketing telephones, answering/fax machines under the brand name Beetel. First push-button phones - 'Mitbro'.

1992 - Successfully bid for one of the four mobile phone network licenses auctioned in India. Clinched deal with the French telecom group Vivendi.

Bharti Cellular Limited


1994 Identified mobile telecom business as a major growth area. 1995 Formed Bharti Cellular Limited (BCL) to offer cellular services under the brand name AirTel.

Bharti - First telecom company to cross the 2-million mobile subscriber mark. Brought down the STD/ISD cellular rates in India under brand name 'Indiaone'.

IndiaOne - Indias 1st private national & 10 international long-distance service provider.

November 2006 - Struck a joint venture deal with Wal-Mart

July 2006 - Attracted many key executives from Reliance ADAG, NIS Sparta and created Bharti Comtel.
