Methods of Vector DNA Delivery
Methods of Vector DNA Delivery
Introduction
• Transfection or Transformation or
Transduction is a process by which foreign
nucleic acids are delivered into a eukaryotic
cell to modify the host cell’s genetic makeup.
• It is a widely used laboratory cell culture
technique that introduces foreign nucleic acids
into cells.
• It is a powerful analytical tool enabling study
of gene functions and gene products in cells.
Types of transfection
• Classified into two types,
– Stable Transfection
– Transient transfection.
• Stable transfection refers to sustaining long-
term expression of a transgene by integrating
foreign DNA into the host nuclear genome.
• Transient transfection does not require
integrating nucleic acids into the host cell
genome.
Different transfection protocols that can be
divided into viral-based, non-viral based or
combination of both (hybrid).
Various methods of Trasfection
