TRAINING OBJECTIVE

 By the end of this training you should be able to


write a Career Report meeting requirements for
admission as a member of UIPE and legible to be
registered as an Engineer with ERB.
DEFINITION OF A CAREER

 Anoccupation undertaken for a significant period of a


person’s life and with opportunities for progress.
A profession for which one trains and which is
undertaken as a permanent calling.
 Progressand actions you have taken throughout the
working years of your life, especially as they relate to
your occupation.
RECOMMENDED FORMAT
 A Career Report for purposes of becoming a
member of UIPE and registration with ERB has
seven sections and an appendix.
 Recommended report format is Times New
Roman, Font Size 12 and 1.5 Line spacing
CAREER REPORT WRITING
SECTION ONE: INTRODUCTION
Talk about yourself (name, when and where you were born, age,
qualification(s), and membership of professional body or bodies.

SECTION TWO: EDUCATION BACKGROUND


Nursery
Primary Education
Ordinary Level Education
Advanced Level Education (include combination)
Ordinary Diploma
Higher Diploma
University Education, Programme,
- Industrial training, 1st year, 2nd year and 3rd year.
- Topic for final year, Year of graduation and Class of degree
Education background
 For primary, secondary and post-secondary (Tertiary) stage,
indicate qualifications attained (indicate as appendices and
attach the copies in the appendices in the order they are
mentioned in the report).
 University
• Indicate the year, the degree course and the University.
• Highlight the industrial training experiences during the (1st
2nd, 3rd years), highlighting during each industrial training
the tasks performed, engineering challenges encountered
and the solutions, and key engineering lessons learnt.

• The title for your final year project and Class of


degree, the year of graduation, and indicate as
appendices the degree certificate and academic
transcript obtained and attach copies of degree
certificate and transcript in the appendices.

SECTION THREE: EMPLOYMENT
First 4 years after graduation you are undergoing experiential
learning
You must narrate your account of the situation, the problems solved
and key lessons learnt and decisions you made.

Write your story on what has been happening to you since you
graduated with a basic engineering degree.
For each employment, include the following:
Company e.g. Gulu District Local Govt, Lira City, Arua City, Nebbi
District Local Govt, etc.
Year joined
Title of your Job: e.g. District Engineer, Senior Engineer, Electrical
Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Civil Maintenance Engineer. Indicate
appointment as Appendix and attach appointment letter in the
Appendices.
Reporting to: e.g. CAO, Chief Engineer, Operations Manager, etc.
Supervision: Your Supervisor and staff working under you

 Remember to attach necessary letters of employment,

In this section, the write up must be in narrative form and

SECTION 4: PROJECTS IN WHICH YOU PARTICIPATED


A project must be a solution to a real – world problem.
Briefly describe the engineering projects you participated in
according to the following format:

NOTE:
The project you will write your technical report on should be
among the list of projects you have participated in.

SECTION FIVE: PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

Thedetails of the training/workshop/conference (Duration, Where,
When, Who organised the course/training?, etc)

SECTION SIX: MEMBERSHIP OF PROFESSIONAL

SECTION SEVEN: CONCLUSION
The Career Report must have concluding remarks
about your age, education, employment, project
management, skills training and membership.
Conclude by emphasising the purpose/objective for
submitng your report to UIPE and ERB.
THINGS TO NOTE

 Make sure that the project you will write your Technical
Report on appears on the list of projects you participated
in in the career report.
 The project for your technical report must be one that was
executed at least 3 years from the time you graduated
from University.
THINGS TO NOTE

 For those who first did Ordinary and Higher National


Diploma in Engineering, then went to University, the
project must be one that was executed at least 2 years
from the time you graduated from the University.
 For candidates whose names differ in the various
documents such as ID, academic papers, obtain a
notarized affidavit.
