CONTENT
• A short Introduction
• What is sensor
• Some Examples
• Its uses
• Infrared Sensors
• Photoelectric Sensors
• Types of Sensors
• Applications
• Conclusion
INTRODUCTION
• A Sensor Is A Device That Measures A Physical Quantity And Converts It
Into A Signal Which Can Be Read By An Observer Or By An Instrument

• Example: You Can Say That Our Skin, Ears, Eyes And Nose Are Also A
Sensor Because The Can Sense Touch, Heat, Cold, Light, Noise And
Smell.

• For Accuracy, Most Of The Sensors Are Calibrated Against Some

Known Standards..
WHAT IS SENSOR ?

• Sensor is a device that receives and responds to a signal. A sensors

sensitivity indicates how much the sensors output changes when the
measured quantity changes.

• Sensors are a new solution for measuring currents and voltages in

medium voltage Power systems.

• A Typical example is a mercury used in a glass thermometer that

measures the temperature and converts it into the expansion of a liquid.
SENSORS DIAGRAM
USES
• Sensors are used in every day objects such as touch-sensitive elevator
buttons and lamps which dim or brighten by touching the base.

• There are innumerable applications of this technology of which most

of people are not aware.
INFRARED SENSORS :-
THIS SENSORS ARE USED IN HOTELS
THESE INFRARED SENSORS ARE USED
IN SMART PHONES ALSO
PHOTOELECTRIC SENSORS
• These are used in Street lights and Automatic stairs
• The street lights automatically turns on and off as the sun rises and sun
sets.
• This is implemented by using photo electric effect.
AUTOMATIC STAIRS
• It starts running and stops automatically as it senses the
presence or absence of a person.
TYPES OF SENSORS
• Temperature sensor
• IR Sensor (Infrared Sensor)
• Light Sensor
• Ultrasonic Sensor
• Touch Sensor
Temperature Sensor
Temperature sensor is a device that measures the temperature of its
surroundings.
 It can detect changes in temperature and provide corresponding
electrical signals or output values.
Temperature sensors are used in various applications, from weather
monitoring to industrial processes to home thermostats.
IR SENSOR (Infrared Sensor)
• IR Sensors or Infrared Sensor are light based sensor that are used in various
applications like Proximity and Object Detection. IR Sensors are used as
proximity sensors in almost all mobile phones.
• There are two types of Infrared or IR Sensors: Transmissive Type and
Reflective
Light Sensor
• Light Sensors are one of the important sensors.
• A simple Light Sensor available today is the Light Dependent Resistor
or LDR.
• The property of LDR is that its resistance is inversely proportional to
the intensity of the ambient light
Ultrasonic Sensor
• An Ultrasonic Sensor is a non-contact type device that can be used to
measure distance as well as velocity of an object.
• An Ultrasonic Sensor works based on the properties of the sound waves
with frequency greater than that of the human audible range.
Touch Sensor
• We do not give much importance to touch sensors but they became an
integral part of our life.
• Whether you know or not, all touch screen devices (Mobile Phones,
Tablets, Laptops, etc.) have touch sensors in them.
• Another common application of touch sensor is trackpads in our laptops.
APPLICATIONS
• Cars
• Machines
• Aerospace
• Medicines
• Robotics
• Agriculture for food
• Industrial Automation
• Environment
• Electronics
CONCLUSION
• The conclusion of a sensor is the smallest change that it can detect in the quantity
that it is measuring.

• In a digital display, the least significant digit will fluctuate, indicating the changes
of its magnitude. And Resolution is related to precision.
