Lectio Divina
How did your time go?
Lectio Divina
Steps
Silencio (silence) Preparation. Quite yourself. Sit in silence for a time. Ask God to speak to you. Make
yourself willing to be addressed by God.
Lectio (read) Find the text that you would like to focus on. Read it out loud a few times. Place
yourself within the text. Read sections of it and then pause.
Meditatio (meditate) Ponder the text and open yourself to the Holy Spirit. What is God saying? What
is he saying to you? Write some of your thoughts down. How is the passage moving from knowing to
action?
Oratio (pray) Slowly read the passage aloud again and let it be a prayer, allow the words to be a
response to God for the particular situations in your life. Remain in silence again.
Contemplatio (contemplation) What is God saying to you? What does he want to see happen next?
How does he want you to respond? How will you remain transformed by this word, what will you do
to not so quickly forget what God just said and what he wants you to do regarding it?

Meditation
Grounds us to God
Teaches us to focus
It is us stopping and ceasing to do things our way and turning
things over to God
Produces a calm that sustains us in turbulent times
It is a physical way for us to indicate to God that we are listening
Produces an atmosphere where we can hear God’s voice
God’s word
Joshua 1:8
Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may
be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable,
and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of
