Making quizzes and games
• Simulation Games - Incorporating historical simulation games
that involve map-based decision-making. Games or strategy
games set in historical periods can provide an experience by
using "Diplomacy“. These games can enhance critical thinking
skills and help students understand the complexities of historical
decision-making. E.g. Countryballs 1890, Rise of Nations
(Roblox), etc.
• Historical Mapping Challenge - Organizing a competition where
participants use digital mapping tools to create interactive maps
showcasing key historical events, figures, or periods. Encouraging
creativity in the use of multimedia elements, such as images,
videos, and annotations.
• Timeline Mapping Competition by collecting bonus points -
Challenging participants to create a timeline map that visually
represents the chronological sequence of historical events. This
can involve mapping out significant battles, or cultural
developments over time.
• Historical Change Over Time – Students can create maps that
illustrate how a specific geographic area has changed over time.
This could involve urban development, changes in land use, or the
evolution of political boundaries.

Types of digital mapping (part 1)
• Geographical Context - Starting to provide students
with maps that show the relevant geography of the
time period or events they are studying. Using
physical, political or historical maps to help students
understand the locations, borders, and geographical
features.
• Timeline Mapping - Creating timeline maps that
illustrate the chronological progression of events.
Students can place key events on the timeline map,
helping them visualize the order and duration of
historical occurrences. Connecting events with lines or
arrows to show cause-and-effect relationships.
• Interactive Online Maps: Taking advantage of online
mapping tools such as Google Maps, Google Earth, or
other interactive platforms. Creating maps with
markers, annotations, and layers to represent
different aspects of historical events. This adds an
interactive and dynamic element to the learning
experience.
Types of digital mapping (part 2)
• Map Annotations - Providing students with blank maps and ask
them to annotate key locations, routes, and events. Such approach
allows students to actively engage with the material and reinforce
their understanding. Encouraging creativity by allowing them to use
colors, symbols, and labels to convey information.
• Comparative Mapping- Using comparative mapping to show
changes in borders, territories, or political divisions over time.
Highlighting the evolution of empires, civilizations, or geopolitical
structures, allowing students to see how the world map has
transformed.
• Local History Mapping: Connecting historical events to the local
geography of students. Making them research and map significant
local historical landmarks, events, or figures. This approach makes
history more personally relevant and helps students develop a
deeper connection to the subject.
• Collaborative Mapping: Fostering collaboration by having students
work in groups to create collaborative maps. Each group can focus
on a different aspect of a historical event and the maps can be
combined to create a comprehensive picture. Collaboration
enhances teamwork and allows students to learn from each other.
