Procure Solar PV System Components

Prepare Bill of Material (BOM)

• It is a comprehensive list of parts, items,

assemblies and other materials required to create

a product.

• It explains what, how, and where to buy required

materials.

• All manufacturers building products, regardless of

their industry, get started by creating a BOM.

Approach to market

• Approach stores of the company or the market to

place the requirement for components as per BOM.

• Some of the major stores and company are Loom

solar, Vikram solar, Microtek solar, Adani solar,

Waaree Energies limited, etc.

Quantity

• Calculate the wattage requirement of the site.

• The quantity of modules / panels, inverter and

batteries should match the voltage requirement of the

system.

• The power of module should be equal or more than

the actual power required.

Tools Required for Site Assessment

• 50-100 ft. tape measure

• Solar Pathfinder (evaluates the solar energy potential at

a site)

• Compass (not needed if you’re using a Solar Pathfinder)

• Maps (reference for location latitude and magnetic

declination)

• Digital camera

• Conduit bender
• Large crimpers
• Magnetic wristband for holding bits and parts
• C-clamps
• Stud finder
• Pry bar

Tools for Battery Systems
• Hydrometer or Refractometer
• Small flashlight (to view electrolyte level)
• Rubber apron
• Rubber gloves
• Safety goggles
• Baking Soda (to neutralizer any acid spills)
• Turkey Baster
• Funnel
• Distilled Water
• Voltmeter

Quality check & Documentation

• Solar panels are installed for about 25 years hence,

quality becomes a vital part of assembly.

• Ensure that only company recommended quality

materials are used unless specified by customer.

• Ensure that all materials are QC passed.

• Complete all documentation w.r.t. Procurement

Verification of the Components On-site
• Plan and receive the equipment at site.

• Ensure that all the components are handled and stored

properly as per standard operating procedures.

• Check materials received as per final BOM and ensure

that the correct material for the job arrives on site and is

damage free.

• Report and document the status of material received at

site and take appropriate action for replacements, if any.
