Poetry pre-test
What is a poem?
Answer – A poem is a writing platform which describes feelings and includes rhythms, alliteration,
harmony and other more.
List as many different types of poetry that you know, giving a brief description of their features.
Answer:
Acrostic poems – Acrostic poems are poems where the first letter spells out the word in each line, for
example, the alphabet.
Haiku poems – Haiku poems are ones that are from the language Japanese and is a poem that
includes three lines. There are 5 syllables in the first line, seven in the second line a 5 on the third
line.
Limerick poems – Limerick poems are ones that have a continuous rhythm and is a poem that
includes 5 lines, 2 longer lines, 2 shorter lines, 1 line that closes and a rhythm scheme.
Poetry pre-test
Name as many different types of figurative language that you know (give a brief description of each type and/or an example)
Answer:
Simile – a simile is described as a speech comparing two unlike things that are often introduced by like or as.
For example: The pool was as cold as ice. Light as a feather.
Metaphor – A metaphor is used in descriptive writing; it compares something directly to something else in order to create an image on a thing
that is similar.
For example: His cheeks were on fire. She's going through a rollercoaster of emotions.
Write another stanza for the following poem:
I went for a walk in the part one day,
And what do you think I found?
A busy bee stuck up in a tree
And a beehive on the ground!!
My stanza:
I went to the part one day to have a picnic with my family,
And what do you think happened?
There was a random dog coming towards us

Answer:
Poems can paint picture in everyone’s mind, they can also make people feel a certain way. Poetry
was originally read aloud to an audience.
The earliest types of poems are the epic poems, it was discovered more than 1000 years ago and is
still used for students today.
Poetry appreciation
1. Were the following poets reading poetry? If yes, what type or style of poetry do you think it was,
or what were some of the features of their poetry?
Harry baker – Harry baker is a person who used to rap poems about feelings, animals and other topics.
What I enjoyed about his rap poem is that it was my first time seeing a rap poem, so it was very
interesting for me to discover how to rap poems.
Spike Milligan – Spike Milligan seems to be a person who entertains people from making noises out of
his poems which also made me laugh. What I liked about his poem is that he makes people feel
entertained even if his poems are quite short.
Michael Rosen –Michael Rosen is an author who makes stories about his lifestyle for example, his
chocolate cake story. This story of the chocolate cake was about when MMichael loved chocolate cake
that his mom made. One day, he sneaked out of bed to check if there was chocolate cake but after a few
30 minutes, all the chocolate cake was gone and that reason was because he ate it.
Poetry appreciation
Pam Ayers – Pam Ayers is a person who made a story about oh I wished looked after
me teeth’. It is a story about what happened after her eating too many sweet things,
so she is deciding to look after her teeth.
Solli Raphael – Solli Raphael is one of the youngest of poetry slam. His story was
about how people should know why racism negatively effects people and why whites
kill blacks for no typical reason.

Diamonds are the most precious of all gemstones.
Her lifestyle seems much more glamorous than mine.

We had steak and salad, followed by a delicious desert.

We could hear someone shouting furiosly outside the window.
The hikers arrived back from their bushwalk feeling ravenous.
We peeped curiosly through the enormous iron gates.

Science
Sequence of events:
Marble will first be in the downhill cardboard.
There will be dominos and when the marble hits them, they all fall down leading to another ball.
The ball goes down in another downhill cardboard.
It hits the phone this time.
Last, it goes through 3 remote controls and falls into the cup.
