• Concrete is a composite material composed of
fine and coarse aggregate bonded together
with a fluid cement that hardens over time-
most frequently a lime based cement binder,
such as Portland cement, but sometimes with
other hydraulic cements, such as a calcium
aluminate cement.
TYPES OF
TYPES OF CONCRETE
CONCRETE
 Based on strength :
1. Low strength concrete: Compressive strength of concrete less than 20
Mpa.
2. Moderate strength concrete: Compressive strength is in between 20-50
Mpa.
3.High Strength Concrete: Compressive strength is in between 50-200Mpa.
4. Ultra high strength concrete: Compressive strength is 200Mpa and above

 Based on density:
1.Ultra weight concrete: Density is less than 1200kg/cubic meter.
2.Light weight concrete: Density lie between 1200-1800kg/cubic meter.
3.Normal weight concrete: Density is less than 2400kg/cubic meter.
4.Heavy weight concrete: Density its liess between 2400-3200kg/cubic
meter.
GRADE OF CONCRETE

GRADE OF CONCRETE
 It is defined as the minimum strength the
concrete must posses after 28 days of
construction with proper quality control. Grade of
concrete is denoted by ‘M’ to the desired
strength in N/mm. For example, for a grade of
concrete with 15Mpa strength,it will be denoted
by M15, where M stands for Mix.
 GRADE OF CONCRETE AND THEIR USES:
Grades of concrete are M5, M10, M15 etc. For plain cement
concrete works, generally M15 is used. For reinforced
concrete construction minimum M20 grade of concrete are
used.
Concrete Mix Ratio Compressive
Grade Strength/Mpa
M5 1:5:10 5Mpa
M10 1:3:6 10Mpa
M15 1:2:4 15Mpa
M20 1:1.5:3 20 Mpa
M25 1:1:2 25Mpa
M30 Desigen mix 30Mpa
M35 Desigen mix 35Mpa
