Introduction about
Burmese pythons
Done by: Lilly
Introduction:
• Burmese pythons are one of the most largest and famous species of snakes to
be recorded. They are one of the largest snakes in the world and are best
known for the way they catch their prey and eat their food.

• They eat them by using their sharp point teeth to seize the prey and then coils
its body around the prey to squeeze them to death leading the prey suffocating.

• Their stretchy ligament in their jaws help them swallow the animals up to 5
times as wide as their head.

• The Burmese python is a dark-colored non-venomous snake with many brown

blotches bordered by black down the back. In the wild, Burmese pythons
typically grow to 5 m.they have a rapid growth rate, and can exceed 2.1 m (6 ft
11 in) in length in a year if fed well
02
What are they
predators to
Done by: Lilly
What animals are predators to
Burmese pythons?
• they are fed on by big cats such as Asian tigers and leopards, but these
animals are becoming increasingly rare in their natural habitat, so the risk is
much lower currently for Burmese pythons to be eaten.

• This leads to their population increase

03
Who are they
prey to?
Done by: Kevin
Who are they prey to?

• They often feed on mammals such as Rodents, rabbits, pig and deer. They
also feed on birds, ( they feed on birds so they can get their eggs), they
could also eat frogs, lizards and smaller snakes.
04
Where do they
normally live?
Done by: Maya
Where are they normally found?
• Burmese pythons are found in Florida, southern China, Burma,
Thailand.

• Burmese pythons live in rainforests near streams, although they

survive in a variety of habitats, such as grasslands, swamps,
marshes and rocky foothills.

• It is an excellent swimmer and needs a permanent source of

water.

• It lives in grasslands, marshes, swamps, rocky foothills,

woodlands, river valleys, and jungles.

• It can stay in water for 30 minutes but mostly stays on land.

• It is a good climber

Everglades^^
How did the Burmese python survive in
Florida?
• Burmese pythons are large constrictors that can grow to over 20 feet in length.

• Burmese pythons spend their mornings soaking up the sun's warmth, enabling
them to move around to look for It's food.

• enlarge its organs to swallow and digest prey whole

Burmese pythons are one of the largest snakes in the world.

How were the pythons began breeding in the
wild?
Believed the pythons began breeding in the wild as a result of two
primary causes:

 Irresponsible pet owners releasing them and they escaped from

their loosely-kept cages as a result of hurricane or stormy
weather.

 The reticulated python’s coloration of skin pattern also has aided

in its survival. It is colored much like its surroundings, and can
blend into low lying and aquatic environments very well. (has
patterned skin that help it camouflage in its habitat)
05
When and where were they first
introduced?
Done by: Kevin
When were they first introduced ?

• The first Burmese python found in the Everglades in 1979 was likely a former
pet released or escaped into the wild.
06
How can we control the
Burmese python population?

Done by:Chris
How are they trying to control it?

• The main way to prevent the problem of aggressive species like the
Burmese python is to stop transporting them to new ecosystems.

• Which mean that the interaction between the living organism and the
non living organism
07
Are the Burmese pythons invasive?
Done by: Ahmed
Are they dangerous/invasive?
- Yes, they are very invasive especially in Florida but are nonvenomous.

- They are not found in Egypt but there are other venomous snakes found in
Egypt that could be deadly.
09
How has it affected the ecosystems it has
been introduced to??
Done by: Ahmed
• Their presence has led to severe declines in Everglades
mammal populations. They are known to eat imperiled
species such as wood storks, Key Largo woodrats, and
limpkins, as well as large animals such as alligators,
white-tailed deer, and bobcats.

• They also compete with native predators for food,

habitat, and space.
10
What are the pros and cons of Burmese
pythons?
Done by: Lilly
PROS CONS
1. Competition with Native Predators: Burmese
1. They can be kept as pets pythons may compete with native predators for food
resources. Their presence can put additional pressure
2. They are hard to get predated by on already vulnerable species, potentially leading to
declines in populations of native predators.
3. Less susceptible to predators 2. Population Control Challenges: Controlling the
population of Burmese pythons in invaded areas is
challenging. They are well-adapted to the
environment, their behavior makes them difficult to
detect and manage. Efforts to control their population
have included hunting programs, but the scale of the
problem remains a significant challenge.
11
How to define whether a place has a
huge population of these pythons or
not?
Done by: Kevin
How to know whether a place has a huge amount
of these pythons or not?

• We know it as a prediction but not 100% accurate that mainly their population can
depend on the habitat whether it has a permanent and huge source of water or not.

• The more the damp the habitat is , the higher the chance/possibility of finding
Burmese pythons
