INTRODUCTION
Welcome to our presentation on run flat tyres, a
revolutionary innovation in the world of automotive
technology. As the name suggests, run flat tyres are
designed to keep your vehicle moving even if the tyre is
punctured or damaged. This means that you can continue
driving safely to your destination without having to stop
for a tyre change or repair. Run flat tyres have gained
immense popularity in recent years due to their numerous
benefits, including increased safety, convenience, and
peace of mind. They are especially useful for drivers who
frequently travel long distances or in areas with limited
access to repair shops. In this presentation, we will explore
the advantages and disadvantages of run flat tyres.
Tyres with reinforced sidewalls
Reinforcement of
sidewall in run flat
tyres

• Polyimide + Glass Fibre

Polyimide polymer has
very high compressive
yield strength and glass
fibers have a very high
tensile strength which
makes this material most
suitable for
use in sidewalls
Conventional
tyres vs run flat
tyres
• Convention tyres use
pressurised air to
support the weight of
the vehicle but when
the tyre gets
punctured air escapes
and the weight of the
vehicle no longer
supported and this
creates the flat tyre.
• A run flat tyre also uses
pressurised air to support
the vehicle’s weight but it
has a backup which is
sidewalls support. These
sidewalls are designed at a
molecular level to resist heat
buildup and maintain their
shape under pressure. When
a run flat tyre is punctured it
loses air but it continues to
support the vehicle’s weight
using the sidewalls support.
Why Run Flat tyre over conventional
tyre?
• One of the biggest advantages of run flat tyres is increased
safety. With run flat tyres, you can continue driving even if
you have a puncture or blowout. This means you won't be
stranded on the side of the road, which can be especially
dangerous in certain situations. In fact, studies have shown
that run flat tyres can reduce the risk of accidents caused by
tyre failure by up to 40%.
• Another advantage of run flat tyres is convenience. Since you
don't need to carry a spare tyre or worry about changing a
flat, you can save time and effort. This can be especially
helpful if you are travelling long distances or in areas where
help may not be readily available. Additionally,
run flat tyres can provide a peace of mind knowing that
you're less likely to experience a sudden tyre failure.
Disadvantage
• One potential disadvantage of run flat tyres is their
higher cost compared to traditional tyres. This is due
to the added technology and materials required to
make them capable of supporting a vehicle's weight
even when deflated.
• Additionally, run flat tyres may have limited
availability depending on the make and model of
your vehicle. On the other hand, some argue that the
increased safety and convenience provided by run
flat tyres outweigh the potential drawbacks. In the
event of a puncture or blowout, run flat tyres allow
you to continue driving to a safe location without
having to change a tyre on the side of the road. This
can be especially important in emergency situations
or for those who frequently travel long distances.
Maintenance and
repair of run flat
tyres
• To ensure the longevity and performance of
your run flat tyres, it is important to follow
proper maintenance and repair procedures.
• Regularly inspect your tyres for any signs of
damage or wear, such as cracks, bulges, or
punctures. If you notice any issues, have them
repaired by a qualified technician as soon as
possible to prevent further damage.
• It is also important to properly inflate your run
flat tyres to the recommended pressure levels.
Overinflated or underinflated tyres can cause
uneven wear and reduce the lifespan of the tyre.
Additionally, make sure to rotate your tyres
regularly to promote even wear and
extend their lifespan.
CONCLUSION

• In conclusion, run flat tyres are a game changer

in the world of motoring. They offer increased
safety, convenience, and peace of mind to drivers
everywhere. With run flat tyres, you can drive
confidently knowing that you won't be stranded
on the side of the road with a flat tyre. While
there may be some drawbacks, such as higher
cost and limited availability, the benefits far
outweigh any potential negatives. By investing in
run flat tyres, you are investing in your own safety
and the safety of those around you.
