City – Athens
Athens is the capital of
Greece and it was a very
influential Greek city-state. It
had many fine buildings and
was named after the Greek
goddess of warfare and
wisdom, Athena.
Athens was a centre for
learning, arts and philosophy
and it was the birthplace of
many famous philosophers,
such as Aristotle and Plato.
City – Sparta
Sparta was known for its
warrior society and caste.
This meant that the
Spartan society was
divided into social classes,
similar to a hierarchy.
Sparta was one of the most
dominant of all the Greek
city-states.
City - Thebes
The city Thebes is well-known for being the origin of
many Greek myths, such as the myth of Oedipus.
This city is northwest of Athens and was one of the
more powerful cities of Ancient Greece.
Now, in present day, the city is a market for trading
goods, as well as an agricultural land. There are still
some ancient ruins that exist in Thebes.
Climate of Ancient Greece

Greece had dry and hot summers while Due to this weather, the Ancient Greeks
the winters were mild and wet. raised crops and animals well. They
harvested wheat, barley and olives, and
the mountains were very fertile. They
provided good crops such as corn,
sweet-corn, corn which is sweet and
shrubs.
