Tissues
Plant tissues can be divided into two types
Meristematic tissue and Permanent tissue.
Permanent tissue can be divided further into
two types Simple permanent tissue and
Complex permanent tissue. And meristematic
tissue can be further divided into three Apical
meristem, Intercalary meristem, and the third

Meristematic
Tissue
The tissues in which cells always keep dividing giving
them rise to new cells are called meristematic tissues.
These tissues are responsible for the growth of plants.
The plants grow only in those regions where
meristematic tissues are present e.g. root and shoot tip. It
is also called growth tissue. Meristematic tissues is
classified on the basis of there position in the plant body.
These are as the following

1. Apical Meristem
2. Intercalary Meristem
Apical meristem
It is present at growing tips of stems and roots. Thus,
helpful in increasing the length of the stems and the roots. Apical
It acts as pro-meristem having actively dividing cells, meristem
Intercalary
giving rise to other meristems.
meristem
It is present at the base of the leaves or internodes
Intercalar

( on either side of the node ) of twigs. It helps in meristem
longitudinal growth (elongation) of plants.
Lateral
meristem
It is present on the lateral sides of stems and roots.
It helps in increasing the girth of stem and root. Lateral

Permanent
tissue
The tissues that are completely grown and have lost the
ability of division are known as permanent tissues. The
meristematic tissues divide and differentiate to form the
permanent tissues. Permanent tissues are divided into two
types Simple permanent tissues and Complex permanent
tissues. Simple permanent tissue can be divided into 3 types
Parenchyma, Collenchyma, and Sclerenchyma. And
Complex permanent tissues can be divided into Xylem and
Phloem.
Simple permanent
tissue
These are also known as homogenous tissues. They are
made up of a single cell type, usually with the same
origin, structure, and function. Simple permanent tissue

2. Collenchyma
3. Sclemchyma
Parenchyma
Parenchyma makes a major part of ground tissues in
plants, where other tissues like vascular tissues are
embedded. They are non-vascular and composed of
simple, living and undifferentiated cells, which are
modified to perform various functions.
Collenchyma
Collenchyma tissue is composed by elongated living
cells of uneven primary thick walls, which possess
hemicellulose, cellulose, and pectic materials. It provides
support, structure, mechanical strength, and flexibility to
the petiole, leaf veins, and stem of young plants,
allowing for easy bending without breakage.
