VARIATION

DIRECT VARIATION
Is a relationship between two variables, x and y, that
can be written as

y = kx

Where k is a constant, we say that y varies directly as x. We also


say that y is directly proportional to x. The number k is called the
constant of variation or the constant of proportionality.

INVERSE VARIATION
If a situation is modeled by an equation in the form

Where k is a constant, we say that y varies inversely as x. We also say
that y is inversely proportional to x. The number k is called the
constant variation or the constant of proportionality.
