Introduction

-Substance abuse, also known as drug


abuse, refers to a maladaptive pattern of
use of a substance that is not considered
dependent. Some of the drugs most often
associated with the term include alcohol,
amphetamines, cocaine, apiods etc
- Addiction to these substance leads to their
abuse
Causes of drug and substance abuse

~Peer pressure, friends may force you to take


drugs.
~Stress, think it's the only way to release your
stress.
~Depression, when depressed you tend to turn to
alcohol and drugs.
~ Problems dealing with reality, trying to escape
from reality.
~ Imitation of elders or celebrates, most people
tend to imitate what they see their elders or
celebrates doing.
Effects of drugs and substance abuse

~Heart condition ranging from abnormal


heart rates to heart attack and collapsed
veins and blood vessel function from
injected drugs.
~Lung disease.
~Problems with memory, attention and
decision making, which makes daily living
more difficult.
~A weakened immune system, increasing
the risk of illness and infection.
~Seizures, stroke, mental confusion and

~Surrounding yourself with friends who don't
use drugs
~Learn how to cope with stress and relax
without drugs
