It is the act of intentionally causing one’s own death. • Suicide is serious public health problem; however, suicides are preventable with timely, evidence-based and often low-cost interventions. • Every year close to 800,000 people take their own life and there are many more people who attempt suicide and it is the second leading cause of death among 15-29 years old. Suicide mortality rate is the number of suicide deaths in a year per 100,000 population.
