Hachi: A

Dog's Tale

The movie was based on the real Japanese Akita dog Hachikō.
During his lifetime, the dog was held up in Japanese culture as an
example of loyalty. Since his death, he continues to be remembered
worldwide in popular culture with statues, movies and books.
Hachiko was a real dog who lived in Tokyo in the early 1900s.
After his owner passed away, he continued
to wait for his owner at a train station
everyday. Hachiko became famous for his
loyalty and devotion.
Richard Gere plays as a
college professor who
develops an unbreakable
bond with an abandoned dog.
As their friendship grows
deeper, the true spirit of
loyalty inspires the hearts of
an entire town. Sadly his
master goes to work one day,
but dies at work and never
returns to the station.
Hachiko returns to the same
spot at the station that
evening, and every day until
the last day of his life, to wait
for his beloved master.
What film earned?
its first theatrical release was in
Japan on August 8, 2009 and
opened in more than 60 countries.
The film earned about 45 million
dollars. On May 19, 2012, a bronze
replica of the original Hachiko
statue was placed. The train depot
at One Depot Square was renamed
Hachiko Place.
