Sustainability in Islam

Islam emphasizes stewardship (khilafah) over

Earth, urging responsible resource use,
conservation, and social justice. Islamic
principles align with sustainability, advocating
for balance, moderation, and the well-being of
present and future generations, fostering
harmony between humanity and nature.
UAE Efforts
The UAE demonstrates a strong commitment to
sustainability through initiatives like the National
Climate Change Plan, renewable energy projects (e.g.,
Masdar City, Noor Abu Dhabi), and hosting the Abu
Dhabi Sustainability Week. Their efforts focus on
diversifying the economy, reducing emissions, and
promoting green technologies.
UAE Hosts COP28
Since its inception in 1971, the UAE has supported the global
climate agenda. Situated in a region where heat is extreme and
water is precious, the UAE has long viewed climate change as a
challenge that must be overcome.

As a regional leader in the energy and sustainability sectors, the

UAE has grown and diversified its economy, creating knowledge,
skills, and jobs for its young people, while contributing practical
solutions to a global problem that affects us all.
What is COP28 UAE?
COP28 UAE will take place from 30 November to 12 December 2023 at
Expo City, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

The United Nations Climate Change Conferences are yearly conferences

held in the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on
Climate Change (UNFCCC). They serve as the formal meeting of the
UNFCCC parties (Conference of the Parties, COP) to negotiate and agree
action on how to tackle climate change, limit emissions and halt global
warming. The United Nations Climate Change Conferences are the world's
highest decision-making body on climate issues and one of the largest
international meetings in the world.
