What is Communication?

The process of conveying/exchanging information from

one place, person or group to another.

What is radio communication?

Radio communication is to convey the information from

one place to another through medium such as air, space, and
non-conducting materials (without wires). RADIO IS USED

FREQUENCY SPECTRUM
Communications and Electronics Service
“ To establish a reliable, modern & secured Communications Network & Infrastructure”

Ultra High Frequency (UHF) is the ITU designation for radio frequencies in the range
between 300 megahertz (MHz) and 3 gigahertz (GHz), also known as the decimeter
band as the wavelengths range from one meter to one tenth of a meter (one
decimeter)

Very High Frequency (VHF) is the ITU designation[1] for the range of radio frequency
electromagnetic waves (radio waves) from 30 to 300 megahertz (MHz), with
corresponding wavelengths of ten meters to one meter.

High Frequency (HF) is the ITU designation[1] for the range of radio frequency
electromagnetic waves (radio waves) between 3 and 30 megahertz (MHz). It is also
known as the decameter band or decameter wave as its wavelengths range from one
to ten decameters (ten to one hundred meters)
Communications and Electronics Service
“ To establish a reliable, modern & secured Communications Network & Infrastructure”

VHF radio use

- VHF propagation characteristics are ideal for

short-distance terrestrial communication, with a range
generally somewhat farther than line-of-sight from the
transmitter. Unlike high frequencies (HF), the
ionosphere does not usually reflect VHF radio and thus
transmissions are restricted to the local area (and
don't interfere with transmissions thousands of
kilometres away).
Communications and Electronics Service
“ To establish a reliable, modern & secured Communications Network & Infrastructure”

UHF radio use

- UHF is the most commonly used frequency
bands for transmission of television signals. Modern
mobile phones also transmit and receive within the
UHF spectrum. UHF is widely used by public service
agencies for two-way radio communication, usually
using narrowband frequency modulation, but digital
services are on the rise.
Communications and Electronics Service
“ To establish a reliable, modern & secured Communications Network & Infrastructure”

HF radio use
- The high frequency band is very popular with amateur
radio operators, who can take advantage of direct, long-
distance (often inter-continental) communications and the
"thrill factor" resulting from making contacts in variable
conditions. International shortwave broadcasting utilizes this
set of frequencies, as well as a seemingly declining number of
"utility" users (marine, aviation, military, and diplomatic
interests).,

1. All Radio users must refrain from airing obscene, indecent and profane
languages and strict observance of communications security.

2. Prior to deployment in field operation, have a pre-arranged coded words

when using radios to avoid interception of information by the enemies.
Whenever applicable, don’t mention your name on air. Use call sign.

3. When using conventional radio, user must listen if the channel is in used to
avoid interference. Do not interfere when someone is transmitting a message
unless the message is an emergency, always say “break” first before
continuing.

4. When one wishes to contact a station, call the name of the station first then
the name of the calling party for proper identification.
Communications and Electronics Service
“ To establish a reliable, modern & secured Communications Network & Infrastructure”

5. Must transmit the message slowly and clearly. Do not shout at the
microphone. Hold the radio at about two inches from the lips, hold the PTT
button firmly, and speak clearly in normal voice.

6. The operator who wish to contact any station in the system must first listen
long enough to the circuit before keying the transceiver.

7. For mobile vehicles when calling or being called by the base, must give their
location (10-20) at once.

8. Long messages should be broken into phrases and each phrase repeated
once before going to the next phrase of the message to avoid too much
repetition.
Communications and Electronics Service
“ To establish a reliable, modern & secured Communications Network & Infrastructure”

9. Acknowledge message properly, giving the time received, date and operator who
received and always be certain that the message received is complete.

10. Do not shout into the microphone even though there is a great amount of noise
in the vicinity, for it will cause distortion .

11. Think and know what you want to say, press the button firmly hesitating an
instant, then speak distinctly. Be brief and concise, be impersonal, do not mumble,
do not talk too fast.

12. Obey the order/s of the base (dispatcher) regardless of his rank, for his
authority emanates from the commanders. The dispatcher should see to it that the
discipline of the members of the net is maintained at all times in order to utilize
communication facilities in full.

- The present number of TRS sites in Metro Manila is not

enough to cover the NCRPO AOR. To sufficiently
provide effective and reliable radio signal coverage,
there must be an overlapping of coverage between
sites which at present is not yet achieved.
Actions Taken:
- Submitted proposal to CES for the procurement of
additional TRS repeater sites in the following areas:
NPD and SPD.

- On-going coordination with Richville Corporate Tower

in Muntinlupa City for the relocation of Parañaque TRS
to maximize the coverage to cover the southern part of
SPD or installation of conventional repeater.
- Identified one possible repeater site at Vivere tower

DOs and DON’Ts in Using/Maintaining Radio Transceivers

1. Always keep your radio transceivers clean.

2. Avoid pouring water or any other liquid substance directly to the

transceiver.

3. Do not overexpose the transceiver to direct sunlight.

4. Never attempt to transmit message to the transceiver when no

antenna is attached because it will damage the transceiver.
Communications and Electronics Service
“ To establish a reliable, modern & secured Communications Network & Infrastructure”

DOs and DON’Ts in Using/Maintaining Radio Transceivers

5. Be sure that the antenna being used is matched with the operating
frequency of the radio. Do not used improvised experimental antenna.

6. Use only the required power supply of the transceiver. Overrated power
supply may damage the radio. Underrated power supply may cause the
transceiver not to work properly.

7. Do not bend the antenna of a portable transceiver because radio signal

may not propagate properly and may go back to the circuit which may cause
damage to the transceiver.

8. Do not set your radio in a full volume to avoid being monitored by any
person near you.
Communications and Electronics Service
“ To establish a reliable, modern & secured Communications Network & Infrastructure”

DOs and DON’Ts in Using/Maintaining Radio Transceivers

9. Please obey orders from the net controller (TOC Operator) for his/her
orders emanates from the Task Group (TG) commander.

10. There is a possibility of network jammers and intruders due to the advent
of the new technology. Please do not transmit over the radio any highly
classified information.
11. Be sure that the battery of your radio is fully charged.

12. During thunderstorm, be sure to switch off the radio transceiver.
