Introduction
The Philippine has a rich and colorful history
in which Filipino artist takes pleasure into
incorporating these culture to produce more
meaningful artwork. Luna and Amorsolo mostly
depict the beautiful products of our past and shows
how colonizers had influenced our people. These
artist show how true beauty of art of the Philippine
culture which is something we should be proud of.

a political activist of the Philippine
Revolution during the late 19th century.
He became one of the first recognize
Philippine artists.

Arts, along with the silver of the filipino painter Felix Ressurection
Hidalgo, prompted a celebration which was the highlight of the memoirs
of the members of Propaganda Movement,with the fellow illustrados
toasting to the two painters’ good health and to the brotherhood
between Spain and the Philippines.

represent the Filipino propagandists’ desires to reform, equality,
modernization, and economic improvement in the Philippines through
the guidance-not the control-of the spaniards.

"Grand Old Man of Philippine Art", he was
the first-ever to be recognized as a
National Artist of the Philippines.

Fernando Amorsolo y
CuetoHe is best known for his illuminated landscapes, which
often portrayed traditional Filipino customs, culture,
fiestas and occupations. His pastoral works presented “an
imagined sense of nationhood in counterpoint to
American colonial rule” and were important to the
formation of Filipino national identity. He was educated in
the classical tradition and aimed “ To achieved his
Philippine version of the Greek ideal of a human form.” In
his painting in a Filipina women, Amorsolo rejected
Western ideals and was fond on basing the faces of his
subjects on members of his family. He earned his degree
from the Liceo de Manila Art School in 1909 and entered
the University of the Philippines’ (UP) School of Fine
Arts.

Juan Luna and Fernando Amorsolo both artists
belonged to different eras in the historical
timeline of the country, they became symbols
of the greatest of the Filipinos, not only of their
arts, but because of their love for the
motherland and its people as shown in their
paintings.
