According to Cooper & Palmer (2000), ‘Stress is the reaction people have to
excessive pressures or other types of demand placed upon them. It arises when
they worry that they cannot cope’.
Teachers today are under a great deal of stress. With high-stakes testing and schools’ demands for
high-quality teacher/student performance, teachers experience many sources of stress. The effects
of stress are not only harmful for the individual teacher, but for the students and the learning
environment as well.

PERCENTAGE ANALYSIS
Factor analysis were used to analyze the factor that enhances the effectiveness of stress
management among school teachers. KMO measure of sampling adequacy was .913 and
Bartlett’s test showed significance level .001. Therefore factor analysis could be applied to 20
variables measuring the effectiveness of stress management among school teachers. It was
observed that all measures of sampling adequacy being more than 0.05, all variable could be
subjected to factor analysis. The total variance explained was 60.781.
From 20 variables is classified into 3 factors namely Stress factor, work factor, stress reduction
factor. Stress factor has 7 variables with a cumulative variance of 28.091. Work factor has 7
variables with a cumulative variance of 47.379. Stress reduction factor has 6 variables with a

The physical and mental impact caused by stress and the ways to overcome stress. The student’s
behaviour, waking up late, the class strength / number of students they handle, inadequate facilities,
administrative pressure etc. cause them stress. The school teachers seek the support of their family
members, friends and colleagues. To overcome stress teachers indulge in meditation or prayer. The
teachers face tiredness, indigestion problems because of stress. The teachers can engage them self
in yoga, exercises to keep them away from stress. The management should take adequate
administrative measures like providing proper working environment, counselling etc. The
management should maintain the student teachers ratio (30:1). It helps the teachers to be interactive
with their students and make them less stress. The government should implement certain policies
regarding the facilities to be provided inside the school, the environment of the school, their
minimum pay scale etc. A combination of Institutional change and stress management is often the
