THEORIES OF LAW

 Natural law is a theory in ethics and philosophy that says that human beings
possess intrinsic values that govern their reasoning and behavior. Natural law
maintains that these rules of right and wrong are inherent in people and are not
created by society or court judges.

NATURAL LAW THEORY

 What are the 4 principles of the natural law theory?
 The first principle is that the act must be a good one.
 The second principle is that the act must come about before the consequences.
 The third is that the intention must be good.
 The fourth, it must be for serious reasons.
 Aquinas's Natural Law Theory contains four different types of law:
 Eternal Law,
 Natural Law,
 Human Law and
 Divine Law.

WHAT ARE THE 4 THEORIES OF

NATURAL LAW?
 It refers to the idea that there are certain moral principles that are universal
and unchanging, and that they exist independently of human laws or beliefs.

ETERNAL LAW
 A body of unchanging moral principles regarded as a basis for all human
conduct.

NATURAL LAW
 Thomas says that it is from the principles of the natural law, as from general
and indemonstrable principles, that the human reason needs to proceed to
certain particular determinations of the laws. These particular determinations,
devised by human reason, are called human laws.

HUMAN LAW
 Divine law is any body of law that is perceived as deriving from a
transcendent source, such as the will of God or gods.

DIVINE LAW
 Who gave the divine law?
 Divine law is the name for a number of laws that were given by one God. As
such, they are not supposed to change.
