What is AHU

Is a device used to regulate and circulate air as part of a heating,

ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system.

Components

 Starter panel
 Electrical motor – pully - blower
 Heat exchanger coil
 Duct
 Damper controls
 Actuator
 VFD
 Thermostat
Daily checks

Tools :
 Clamp meter
 Thermometer
 Anemometer ( if required)
Checks :
 Supply & return air temperature (16 deg C and 24 deg C)
 Set point = 23Deg C
 Chilled water inlet and outlet temp (Delta T – 3 to 5 Deg C)
 Chiller water inlet and outlet pressure (Delta P – 0.5kg/cm2)
 Motor load current
 VFD frequency
Trouble shooting

When temp is too high at work space

 Check the VAV set point at work station area (it should be 23 deg C or less than
that )
 Check AHU ON/OFF status (it should be ON)
 Check AHU set point (should be 23 deg C)
 Check the VFD frequency (it should be more than 40hz)
 Check chilled water inlet temp (10degc or less)
 Check actuator condition (it should be open)
 Check for any leakages
 Check the canvas temperature (it should be 16 deg C)
 Inform Engineer on the situation if not resolved

Temp at work stations should be maintained at 24.5 deg C

Maintenance essentials

 Ensure the cleanliness inside AHU room

 Ensure the cooling coil is clean not clogged and filters are clean
 Ensure drain is not choked
 Ensure the VFD is running between 30 to 50hz and not less than
that.
 Ensure the power supply is available and OLR is correctly set
 Y- strainer cleaning every quarter
How to check the CFM

 Divide the air filter area into 6 or 9 equal parts as below

1 2 3

4 5 6

 Measure the velocity of air at each part using anemometer in feet/mn

 Find the average of the above velocities (V)
 Find the area of the the air filer in square feet (A)
 Then quantity of air passing through AHU is
 Q= AV IN CUBIC FEET / MIN
