FALLAS FESTIVAL IN 2020
•The Fallas Festival will start the night of March 15
and will end on March 19.
WHY ARE THEY CALLED "FALLAS"?
• The Valencian word fallas derives from the latin facula, which means "torch".
WHAT THINGS WE DO IN FALLAS
FESTIVAL?
• La Plantá: figures are placed
• Prize collection: figures from
different categories are rewarded
• The offering:the offering is made to
the Virgin of the Helpless, patron of
Valencia. A huge tapestry of flowers
covers the body of the Virgin.
• Nit del foc: the biggest pyrotechnic
show of the celebration. More than a
million people gather to see a
fireworks launch that lasts more than
half an hour, anticipating the end of
the Fallas.

Why Fallas are celebrated?
• The origin of the Fallas festival dates back to the ancient
tradition of the carpenters of the city, who on the eve of the
feast of their patron San José, burned in front of their
workshops, in the streets and public squares, unusable junk
together with the wooden gadgets they used to raise the lamps
that illuminated them while they worked in the winter months.
