The first place of refuge of Bonifacio, Emilio
Jacinto, Procopio Bonifacio, Teodoro Plata,
Aguedodel Rosario and Pio was at Balintawak

They met on August 22, 1896 at the yard of


Apolonio Samson at KangKong.

It was at Pugad Lawin in the house, store-house of


Juan Ramos where over 1,000 members of the
Katipunan met and carried out considerable debate
and discussion on August 23, 1896.

Melchora at a place of Sampalukan barrio of Bahay
Toro, Katipuneros met together.

Monday, August 24, 1896


The Supremo decided to hold a meeting inside the big
barn. The meeting began at 10 o’clock in the morning.

12 o’clock, “Long Live the Sons of the Country”!

When the activity of the Katipunan had
reached the over the Philippine Archipelago,
they immediately returned to Caloocan.

Closely watched by the Spaniard authorities,


Andres Bonifacio and other Katipuneros left
and that was the beginning of the uprising,
with the first cry of freedom on August 25,
1896.
Gregoria de Jesus
Gregoria learned that the Spanish authorities were
coming to arrest her. She fled down at 11 o’clock at
night, going through the rice fields to La Lorna with the
intention of returning to Manila.

Gregoria was treated like an apparition in every house


where she tried to rest. She was driven away by people
who were also frightened for their own lives.
She found out that the occupants she had visited were
seized and severely punished.

On August 26, 1896 a big meeting was held in Balintawak at the house of
Apolo Samson then the Cabeza of that barrio Caloocan.

Bonifacio, Emilio Jacinto, Aguedodel Rosario, Tomas Remigio, Briccio


Patas, Teodoro Plata, Pio Valenzuela, Enrique Pacheco and Francisco
Carreon.

9 o’clock in the morning the meeting was opened with Andres Bonifacio as
presiding and Emilio acting as secretary.

Purpose: Discuss when the uprising was to take place.

And, that was the beginning of the fire which later became such
huge conflagration.
