Introduction to Music Ministry

Simply put, music ministry is

a service to God that
supports the sermon by
leading the congregation
through song and worship.
Introduction to Music Ministry
Music ministry is a vessel from
which the church can “teach and
admonish one another with wisdom
through psalms, hymns, and songs
from the Spirit,” according to
Colossians 3:16.
 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another
with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with
gratitude in your hearts.
Introduction to Music Ministry
It is also an avenue from which the
church can express their hearts of
gratitude toward God, through
song, and which allows the
believer to share their otherwise
inexpressible and glorious joy
(1 Peter 1:8).
 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see
him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,

Liturgical Year

The calendar dates of the

liturgical times and seasons vary
from year to year and are
published by the church in the
ORDO -- an annual calendar that
gives directions for each day's
Mass.
The Liturgical Year has three
cycles:
• Year A (2022-2023)
• Year B (2023-2024)
• Year C (2024-2025)
Liturgical Year

Liturgies for feasts and important

celebrations are the same, and
are referred to as YEAR ABC

The Misa de Gallo (and the

Simbang Gabi) is part of Year ABC

Special liturgies may also be

prepared by the Liturgist assigned
by the Bishop for special
occasions such as Ordination and
Pontifical Mass.
Liturgical Music

“Liturgical music can be defined as

that music which weds itself to the
liturgical action, serves to reveal
the full significance of that rite and,
in turn, derives its full meaning from
the liturgy.”

Liturgical Music

 In liturgical music, based as it is on

biblical faith, there is, therefore, a clear
dominance of the Word; this music is a
higher form of proclamation. Ultimately,
it rises up out of the love that responds
to God’s love made flesh in Christ, the
love that for us went unto death.’
 (Spirit of the Liturgy – Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI)
Liturgical Music

Music of the Liturgy – liturgical

music which are in itself part of the
Liturgy, and must be sung during the
Holy Eucharist celebrated during the
