GROUP 5
PRESENTATION
OBJECTIVES:
> Describe how ions are formed as a result of
electron transfer.
> Deduce which ions will be formed when element
in group I,II,III lose electrons
> State the transition element can form more than
one ions and memorize the most common transition
metal ions.
> Memorize the formulas and names of common
polyatomic ions.

What is an
ION?
ION
-are simply charged atoms.
-are neither positive nor
negative.
- are charged substance that
have formed through the gains or
loss of electron.
Ions are formed as atoms gains or lose electron.

WHAT IS
METAL?
TAKE NOTE!
ELECTRONEGATIVITY is the
ability of the atom to attract
electron.
What is NON -
METAL?
NON - METAL tend to gain electrons and form
negatively charged Ion called ANION.
THE TWO TYPES OF
ION
Cations are ions that are positively
charged.
Anions are ions that are negatively
charged.
Ion is an atom, or group of atoms, that has a net positive or negative
charged.
