ACTIVITY
Degree Measures of Arcs
• The degree measure of a minor arc is
equal to the measure of the central
angle which intercepts the arc.
• The degree measure of the major arc
is equal to 360 minus the measure of
the minor arc with the same end
points.
• The degree measure of a semicircle is
180°.

BC = 60

BAC = 360 - 60 = 300

A
EXAMPLES:
Find the measure of each arc.
1. BC = 32°
2. BD = 90°
3. ABC = 180°
4. AB = 148°
5. ACD = 238°
APPLICATION Find measures of arcs
Survey
A recent survey asked teenagers if they would rather
meet a famous musician, athlete, actor, inventor, or
other person. The results are shown in the circle graph.
Find the indicated arc measures.

a. m ABC
SOLUTION
a. mAC = mAB + mBC
= 29o + 108o
= 137o
APPLICATION Find measures of arcs
Survey

A recent survey asked teenagers if they would rather

meet a famous musician, athlete, actor, inventor, or
other person. The results are shown in the circle graph.
Find the indicated arc measures.

b. m ACD
SOLUTION

b. mACD = mAC + mCD

= 137o + 83o
= 220o
APPLICATION Find measures of arcs
Survey

a famous musician, athlete, actor, inventor, or other
person. The results are shown in the circle graph. Find the
indicated arc measures.

c. m ADC
SOLUTION
c. mADC = 360o – mAC
= 360o – 137o
= 223o
APPLICATION Find measures of arcs

Survey

A recent survey asked teenagers if they would rather

meet a famous musician, athlete, actor, inventor, or
other person. The results are shown in the circle graph.
Find the indicated arc measures.

d. m EBD
SOLUTION

d. mEBD = 360o – mED

= 360o – 61o
= 299o
SEATWORK
Identify the given arc as a major arc,
minor arc, or semicircle, and find the
measure of each arc.
1. TQ
2. QRT
3. TQR
4. QRS
5. TS
6. RST
ANSWERS

1. TQ

SOLUTION

TQ is a minor arc, so m TQ = 120o.

2. QRT

SOLUTION

QRT is a major arc, so m QRT= 240o.

ANSWERS

3. TQR

SOLUTION

TQR is a semicircle, so m TQR = 180o.

4. QRS

SOLUTION

QRS is a minor arc, so m QS = 160o.

ANSWERS

5. TS

SOLUTION

TS is a minor arc, so m TS = 80o.

6. RST

SOLUTION

RST is a semicircle, so m RST = 180o.
