Identity
development in
NSTP
NSTP is a program designed to develop the
youth's physical, moral, spiritual,
intellectual, and social well-being and
promote defense preparedness and ethics of
service while undergoing training in any of
its three program components.
As a youth in nation building, you must
have the ability to lead and facilitate others
what you've learned in your nstp course.
Share the knowledge on what best we
could contribute as youths in our
community.
Identity formation, also called identity
development or identity construction, is a
complex process in which humans develop
a clear and unique view of themselves and
of their identity. Self-concept, personality
development, and values are all closely
related to identity formation.
Identity Development for youth is
typically divided into four stages.
These are:
• Channeling
• Selection
• Adjustment
• Reflection
• Channeling - This stage is
characterized by the emergence of
new expectations and new roles for
youth. In this stage, youths need to
accomplish developmental tasks
related to having positive peer
relationships, gender identity,
independence from parents, and
possible career opportunities
2. Selection - In this stage, youths are
exposed to different future possibilities.
They explore different groups, assess
career opportunities, and develop
various skills. In this stage,
constructing life goals is integral to the
youths’ lives. They need to come up
with a strategy to reach their life goals.
3. Adjustment - During this phase, the
youths’ strategies for reaching their
goals do not always succeed. They may
face different unexpected difficulties
and hindrances. In this case, they need
to adjust by coping or solving problems.
they may reconstruct their life goals
depending on the new opportunities and
new points of learning.
4. Reflection - the last stage is
characterized by youths contemplating
and making sense of their experiences.
Their identities start to form relevant to
their life goals, beliefs, and skills. Their
self-concept and self-worth start to take
shape at this point.
Identity crisis or loss of
identity can result in
increased levels of
generalised anxiety, low
self-esteem, depression, a
loss of self-confidence,
social anxiety, isolation,
chronic loneliness, all of
which threaten our ability
to connect with other
people.
Social
responsibility of
youth in society
As part of social responsibilities in
Philippines the youth must be
involved to bring about the right to
education, trainings and jobs. This
should be rendered to gain from a
widespread education system and
must involve both useful occupation
through professional practices, ethical
enrichment and spiritual movement.
Youth as Planners — Young people
can participate as community planners
in community development work.
Using education and training, they can
learn the skills and knowledge they
need, and applying their knowledge
they can guide their peers, younger
people and adults, too.
