USING THE SIMPLE ASPECT OF
VERBS
EXPECTATIONS:
• Compose clear and coherent sentences using the
simple aspects of verbs
• apply rules of the simple aspect of verbs in writing
meaningful sentences
• sustain interest in studying and
answering exercises
VERB
A verb is a word or a combinatin of
words that indicates action or state
of being or condition. A verb is the
part of a sentence that tells us what
the subjects performs.
Example:

Action Words:
dance teach
sing write
play draw
run cook
walk jump
VERB TENSES
Tenses of the verb- indicates the time
of event when did the action happens.
It indicates past, present and future
actions.
SIMPLE PRESENT
TENSE
• is used to show action that is done habitually.
• also expresses facts or truth
• the verb used are the base-form and the -s or
-es form
• base form is used with the plural subject
• -s or -es for is used with the singular subject.

EXAMPLE
• HE DRIVES EVERYDAY.
• SHE LOVES DANCING.
• THE KIDS RUN VERY FAST.
• MYCAH EATS NUTRITIOUS FOOD
• THEY DANCE GRACEFULLY.
SIMPLE PAST TENSE

• is used for events that happened at a specific time


in the past.
• regular verbs form the past by adding ___d or
__ed.
• irregular verbs form their past tense in a
different way

EXAMPLE
• She washed her clothes.
• They watched a movie yesterday.
• We studied very hard last night.
• I played basketball yesterday.
• Diana listened to her mother
SIMPLE SIMPLE
FUTURE TENSE
• is used to show an action that is expected to be
done or happen in the future.
• will/shall + main verb( base form)
• be + going to + main verb (base form)

EXAMPLE
• My mother will cook Spaghetti and
chicken.
• Jhonny will play basketball
tomorrow.
• I shall write a short story.
