Lesson 4 (MODULE 1)
COMPUTER COMMUNICATION
(part 3 of 4)
ANNOTATION:
The third part of our topic on Computer Communication shall continue discussing networking
technologies for an effective and effective computer network. In our last presentation, it was
mentioned that there are technologies needed for computers to be compatible with one another.
This presentation shall continue discussing other topics, in particular network architectures
and network topologies.
I included videos and annotations to provide added insights on the said topics. I suggest that
you open our module when reading this lesson.
Again, huwag magmadi sa pagintindi ng lesson natin. Take your time, focus on absorbing its
content. The moment something unclear comes up, message me asap.
Your next activity is written in the latter part of this presentation.
NETWORK ARCHITECTURE

ANNOTATION:
- refers to how computers are organized in a system and how tasks are allocated between these
computers. Two of the most widely used types of network architecture are peer-to-peer and
client/server. Client/server architecture is also called 'tiered' because it uses multiple levels.
The next two slides shall discuss the two types of network architectures.
CLIENT-SERVER ARCHITECTURE
The client-server model describes how a server provides resources and services to one or
more clients. Examples of servers include web servers, mail servers, and file servers. Each
of these servers provide resources to client devices, such as desktop computers, laptops,
tablets, and smartphones.

PEER-TO-PEER ARCHITECTURE
Peer-to-peer architecture (P2P architecture) is a commonly used computer networking
architecture in which each workstation, or node, has the same capabilities and responsibilities.
Hindi katulad ng Client-Serverf Achitecture, makikita natin sa picture na may pantay pantay
na antas ang mga computers (clients) na naka attach sa P2P architecture. Walang server na
nagbibigay files o resources sa kanila. Patas ang kanilang

NETWORK TOPOLOGIES

ANNOTATION:
Network topology is the arrangement with which computer systems or network devices
are connected to each other.
Napanuod natin sa video kung paano naka attach ang mga computers sa isat isa. Ang
tawag sa pagkaka salansan ng mga cable ay network topology.
See saw that there are three basic topologies; bus, star and ring. From them, came hybrid
or combination topologies such as; mesh, tree and other topologies.
The type of topology to be used by offices depend on its communication needs.
The next slides shall discuss the three basic topologies.
BUS TOPOLOGY
- all the nodes are connected to a single cable. The cable to which the nodes
connect is called a "backbone". If the backbone is broken, the entire segment
fails.
STAR TOPOLOGY
- all nodes are individually connected to a central connection point, like a
hub or a switch.
RING TOPOLOGY
each device is connected with the two devices on either side of it. There are
two dedicated point to point links a device has with the devices on the either
side of it.
ACTIVITY 13

REQUIREMENT:
Give an example for each network technology taken up in this presentation. The
example should be used by a particular office, either local or foreign. Discuss briefly and
preferably an illustration of the technology is included.
1. Client-Server Architecture
2. Peer-to-peer Architecture
3. Hybrid Topology (combination of bus, star or ring)
