DISTANCE-TIME GRAPH
SPEED-TIME GRAPH

YEAR 7 (2024)
What does this road sign mean?
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
• Draw and interpret
distance-time graphs
• draw and interpret
speed-time graphs
Speed is how fast you are travelling, for example, let say that
the distance from the school to a pet shop is 500 m, Andi
walks to the pet shop for 10 minutes, and Dimas walks for 15
minutes, so is the fastest?

Speed depends on two things, the distance covered and time

taken, so if we want to find the speed of an object we can
use:
Speed = Distance : Time
Sally walks 5 km from her house
to the nearest shop in 20
minutes.
She stays at the shop for 10
minutes
Then she continue walks 10 km
to the park in 30 minute

Plot Sally’s journey on the

grid
Calculate the speed for each
stage of her journey.

What was Sally’s average

speed?
a. How far had
Margaret cycled after
30 minutes
b. After 60 minutes,
Margaret stopped for a
rest, for how many
minutes dis she rest
c. How far did Margaret
cycle in total in her ride
