PRAYER

Dear God,
May we, through your blessings,
add purity to the world,
subtract evil from our lives,
multiply Your good news,
and divide Your gifts and share them with others.
Amen.
Objectives
• Performs a series of more than two
operations on whole numbers applying
Parenthesis, Multiplication, Division,
Addition, Subtraction (PMDAS) or
Grouping, Multiplication, Division,
Addition, Subtraction (GMDAS)
correctly.
Order of Operation – MDAS
Rule

Prepared by:
Ms. Judy Ann D. Alaton
Mental Drills
1) 12x3 =________
36
2) 45-6 =________
39
3) 24+5+3 =________
32
4) 150÷10 =________
15
5) 9÷3+3 =________
6
6) 5x2-8 =________
2
The MDAS
Rule:
- is actually a rule to follow when we
are going to solve a series of
operations, that is the four
fundamental operations of real
numbers.
MDAS rule stands for
MULTIPLICATION, DIVISION,
Example 1:
8÷4–2+6
=n
2–2+6
=n
0+6
=n
Example 2:
10 x 5 ÷ 25 + 8 - 2 x 2 + 4 – 3
=N
50 ÷ 25 + 8 – 4 + 4 – 3 =
N
2+8–4+4–3=
N
10 – 4 + 4 – 3
=N
6+4–3=N
Remember this rule:
Multiplication and Division First,
then
Addition and Subtraction
Your Turn
1) 15 + 10÷5 x 8 + 2 - 7 x 4
÷2 – 6=N

2) 27 ÷3 - 3 x 2 + 5 - 14÷2
+ 5=N
Activity 1
Perform the indicated
operations.
1. 4 + 5 x 10 ÷ 2 – 6 = N
2. 20 ÷ 5 x 5 + 2 + 14 ÷ 7 = N
3. 45 ÷ 9 – 4 + 4 x 6 ÷ 2 = N
Order of Operation – PEMDAS
Rule

Prepared by:
Ms. Judy Ann D. Alaton
The PEMDAS Rule
- refers to Parenthesis,
Exponents then the MDAS.
P – Parenthesis or groupings
symbols
E – Exponents
Whichever comes first – in order from
M – Multiplicationleft to right.
D – Division
Whichever comes first – in order from
A – Addition
left to right.
S - Subtraction
Example 1:
4 + (30 - 3) ÷ 9 + 5 x 4 = N
4 + (27)÷ 9 + 5 x 4 = N
4 + (27)÷ 9 + 20 = N
4 + 3 + 20 = N
27 = N
Example 2:
(10 + 6 ÷ 3) × 2 − 12 = n
(10 + 2) × 2 – 12 = n
12 × 2 – 12 = n
24 – 12 = n
12 = n
Example 3:
× 2 − 12 = n
× 2 – 12 = n
× 2 – 12 = n
36 × 2 – 12 = n
72 - 12 = n
60 = n
Your Turn:
1. 7 x (4 + 1) – 7 x 2
2. 6 + 3 x 2 -5 + (7 – 1)
3. 18 – 2 x 3 + (6 x 3)
Activity 2:
1. (15 ÷ 5) + (2 + 10) x 2 = N
2. (4 x 6) + – (4 + 18 ÷ 2) + 7 =
N
3. (2 x 10 + 5) – (6 ÷ 2) + = N
