23 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

• Glycine max (L.) Merril is also known as


soybean is an annual legume in the Fabaceae
family.
• The crop is also farmed extensively for its
vegetable oil and for human food use, mostly in
Asia. Soya oil, soy milk, tofu, tokwa, miso,
edamame, and soy sauce are some of the foods
that include soybeans.

• Due to rising global demand for meal and oil,


soybean output has increased more than any other
major crop during the 1970s (Hartman, et al.,
2011).
• According to Manuel et al., (1987), 70 to 90
percent of Philippines domestic production and
imports are for animal feed while the remaining
percentage is for human food consumption and
other uses.

• A country has the option to use an import substitution


strategy to reduce its imports. This is mainly used by
less developing nations, where a given commodity is
produced locally rather than imported (Liang 1997).
• The government may establish domestic production
of these crops instead of importing them; helping
farmers boost their income and create more
employment while also reducing the amount of
imported goods.

• According to data from Philippine Statistics Authority of 2021,
the Philippines has only been producing 0.35 percent of the
overall demand for the country during the past five years, with
99.65 percent of the need for items like seeds, soybean meal, and
by products being imported.
• The DA stated that in order to meet local demand, promote food
security, and lessen reliance on importation, local output must be
increased.
• In order to boost their output and income, farmers should be
encouraged to test out innovative and proven technologies that
are relevant in their locales (Lagare, 2023).

• This study will benefit the students, the institution, and


especially the farmers by broadening their skills and
knowledge regarding the production of soybean using
different planting methods.
• Furthermore, the purpose of this study is to find out the
growth performance of soybean using different planting
methods for the reason that soybean production can
boost farmers’ income and also create employment
while reducing the amount of imported goods as stated
by Liang (1997).

Objectives
The study aims to find out the growth performance of soybean
using different planting methods.

Specifically, it will seek to answer the following objective:


1. To determine the growth performance of soybean using different
planting methods in terms of height, number of leaves, and number
of stems
Hypothesis
2. There are no significant differences in the growth performance
of soybean using different planting methods in terms of height,
number of leaves, and number of stems.
Methodology

Site Selection
• ISAT U – Leon Campus Multiplier Farm
Research Design
• This study will utilize the use of an experimental research design
Experimental Layout
• Area of 84 square meters
• Perimeter of 12 meters in length and 7 meters in width
• Each plot composes of 2.63 meters in length and 1.9 meters in
width and the a distance of 0.3 meters between each
• 0.3 in drainage canal.

STATISTICAL ANALYSIS

• All data will be gathered and tabulated. The totals


and means will be recorded, computed and analyzed
using Statistical Tool for Agricultural Research
(STAR) for the Descriptive Statistics and Analysis of
Variance.
