7 SIGNS OF A HEALTHY
RELATIONSHIP

1. Mutual Respect
• Showing others that you are thinking about them
(consideration, care, kindness)
• Listening, helping and supporting
each other
• NOT taking advantage
of each other
• Always respecting one another
2. Trust
• Being able to share your feelings and not feel
worries or afraid that you will be laughed at or
ridiculed
• Not sharing what others tell you
3.Honesty
• Telling each other the truth about how you are feeling or
what you are thinking without hurting other people.
• Understanding that what your friends say does not mean to
harm you but are telling you because they care
• Being honest means doing it with care (deliver the
message gently)
4. Support
• Encouraging your friends and offering help
(homework, advice)
• Support by spending time together and being kind
5. Fairness/Equity
• Treating each other fairly
• Understanding each other’s needs, strengths,
limitations and working together to ensure
inclusivity
• Respect each other’s boundaries
6. Separate Identities
• Respect each other’s separate interests and needs=
encourage one another to pursue them
• Having separate identities means not spending every
moment together
• When you are together you to feel confident and
happy in who you are
7. Good Communication
• Establishing clear rules of communication
• Not everyone feels comfortable talking about things that
bother them, or shy away from difficult conversations where
others like to confront the
problem head on
• Listening to one another is just as
important as talking
• If a friend is continuing to share
the same message or story it
means that it is truly bothering
them and they need you to
listen
