IDENTIFYING

CUES
GROUP HIDAYAH & SUHAILAH
DEFINITION
Identifying cues refer to the specific pieces of information, signals, or indicators that help
individuals recognize or understand something. These cues can be visual, auditory, tactile, or
even symbolic, and they play a crucial role in various aspects of perception, decision-making,
and problem-solving. Identifying cues can be both explicit and implicit, and they are often used
to make inferences, draw conclusions, or take action based on the available information. In
different contexts, identifying cues may include recognizing patterns, interpreting body language,
understanding context, or discerning details that are relevant to a particular situation.
WHAT DOES CUEING MEANS?
Cueing systems in reading are the practices that aid in determining the meaning of unknown
words. Cueing involves using pieces of information like the sound and usage of a word to decide
on its correct purpose within a sentence. The different types of information gathered from a word
fall into specific categories known as cueing systems.

There are three cueing systems in reading, all of which can help a reader find the meaning of a
word they do not already understand. One system uses graphic cues, one uses syntactic cues, and
another uses semantic cues.
